I'm happy we made it around to the topic of what will happen to these cards...

Restoration is a tricky and imaginative concept on these extremely trimmed lobbies...this auction was not under the radar....even without the potentially honest description of  "these have been sent to the 2 leading auction houses of movie memorabilia  at their request but they felt as a third party seller that they needed to much restoration for an auction item. the thought was e-bay would be the better vehicle for sale.".......there is the reality that these cards need a large amount of reproduction blended deftly with a very careful restorers hand, access to high resolution scans of an original lobby card, and enough integrity to forever acknowledge the extent of restoration...and that deminishes what they are and mutates greatly what they "would be"

There is a part of me that really feels that they need to stay "as is".. Without being paper backed and losing how they look and feel...the elephant in the room to me seems like adding scanned and printed photos concealed with clever blended restoration will FRANKENSTEIN these cards....I think that it would take away more than it would accentuate...

Thanks a lot for sharing that information. It is very good of them to say that it had been rejected by those 2 auction  houses.

I'd probably have them restored. I agree that it needs too much restoration. But the idea of seeing it in its full glory (or close to) is far too tempting.

Metropolis trimmed lobby cards...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-diff-metropolis-original-movie-lobby-posters-1927-u-s-release-trimmed-read-on-/291308377227?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43d355148b

Seems like a great deal on these.  Congrats to the lucky fella who won them.

Great info. from y'all.

Personally, my views on restoration have shifted in the last few years.  I'd probably leave these cards as is, assuming they're not falling apart or anything.  They're not heavily folded, missing any of the main artwork, etc., and the colors may just not look the same as the others in the photos, due to the camera, lighting, etc.  They're such classic pieces of history, and as the anti-restoration guys say "they're only original once."

I just saw this link for the Morris Everett auction on December 17, with the only known remaining lobby card for Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.  It looks like the same one as in the eBay listing, so I assume they mean the only known fully intact LC.

Looks like an epic auction.  http://borg.com/2014/11/20/largest-known-collection-of-movie-lobby-cards-and-posters-hits-the-auction-block-in-december/

Hmm, that's a tough one.

I too would probably have had them restored but then we are flying too close to that other story of the Thunderball quad that had had the art cut out, linen backed and then all the titling restored on archival paper - which is probably what would have been the case here too.

That said, in percentage terms of square footage of paper restored, this would have been less than the quad.

Also, Thunderball quads are readily available.  These cards are not.

Really dunno...

how these cards sold for such a low price is beyond me. I've been so busy that aside from searching for my Chandler titles, I haven't been cruising ebay or I would have seen them and you can bet I would have bid much higher
have to be restored? so what! as long as they are sold as restored, there is no problem and these will be worth a pretty good chunk after wards regardless. Even if valued at one-tenth of the card Morrie has, they would still be worth at least a a few small thousands..

great pick-up for the buyer and I really wonder how they sold so low

Exactly. We talk about restoration and such when at the end of the day it's a Fucking Metropolis lobby card!!!  Yes it sucks it needs so much restoration, and it should be restored, and when it is, I'm sure it will look amazing.

Really surprised this one did not go for a lot more. the normal British quad is not that hard to find but the advance is dang near a unicorn.

I own a couple of those but I can tell you that if I had seen it at that price I would have bought it.

Hammer daybills did reasonably well on emovieposter.

this was a bit cheap, but then not listed as hammer

http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&auction_uid1=3720881

good price for this as its not one of the "cool" hammers, but its pretty scarce poster, I would have paid that if i didn't have one.

http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&auction_uid1=3720870

too cheap

http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&auction_uid1=3720828

Priced ok, but suprised Bruce called it a "stone Litho" havent we beat that horse to death a few too many times?

The market for Paramount Marx Bros. paper is doing well...this was a nice result for a trimmed window card

Yeah I wanted that card bad. I watched it all week and was hoping it would go for under 1k. No dice :(

There are a number of Marx Bros collectors and I believe it's been years since one of these has sold. kudos to the winning bidder

I might be naive  but don't care if it is a trimmed WC if i) main artwork is intact and ii) colour in excellent  condition  iii) price is right

There's nothing wrong with that trimmed card...it's a classic 1933 piece..after a quick restoration job it will look great..a restored window card sold last July at heritage for $5,300....

On a side note about 10 years ago I found a trimmed Duck Soup window card in the back of an old framed lithograph on eBay...I finally had it restored by Diane at Studio C...enjoy!
