And all kidding aside....that is interesting that two of the greatest movie poster sales events were both court ordered "fire sales"....the 1997 Feiertag Collection and the 2012 Metropolis court auction

The one who has the better lawyer will "help" decide who gets the posters and who has to buy the cheapo prints...

Maybe he'll take his legal fees in posters?

Typical legal fees.  Mel gets all the posters, and you collect $1.75.

I didn't think this poster will go for this much over $5,000 at HA sig given its restoration (assume as others pointed to me it is the same restored copy). I am a HUGE Marion Davies fan...

The before restoration show some chunks of missing paper...

The Fourth Cone group sure did a good job on this... It looks to be very seamless and blended work.   thumbsup.gif

That's funny, Rosa, me too.  Even during the live bidding I was "Should I"?

Yeah, I should have...

Rosa, because the art on that poster is by illustrator & pin-up artist Harrison Fisher, it has a cross-over appeal to buyers outside the movie poster market

At least the artwork of Davies wasn't affected.  Certainly a nice poster!

As for the Godzilla - I have one and I love it - but there are SO many available which keeps the price down.  Same with the French Creature from the Black Lagoon R62

And I still see these listed every now and then, and described as being a first release poster.  Doh.gif

What a shame Peter. It deserved to be in a good home..I would have been happier if it had gone to you...

Good point Rich. For me this had the whole package:

SAM WOOD + GLORIA SWANSON+ ARTWORK= WINNER

Oh well...sometimes you win...and sometimes you are a sore loser :(

I did note that a large number of the lots barely acheived half their lower end estimates.

I have no idea whether this was due to the estimates being quite high end.  I did miss all things Casablanca though, sorry.

you can only sell the same things over & over so many times.
yes these Bond quads are popular, but they're also expensive & the audience is not endless at those prices
so as the wealthiest spenders fill out their checklist, you start working your way down the economic ladder and the price follows the wallet

this isn't just for posters, it's simple economics in any field for any product even at standard retail stores
