This nice Chantrell quad for LONG HOT SUMMER (1958), sold for just under $43.00 USD. It was folded, and, according to the seller, this copy had come from Ireland, where the censor opted to paint the young lady's slip or dress black, at the bottom of the piece. But if water based paint was used, that would be an easy fix!  :D

Overall, tho, not a bad price at all, imo. Someone did good!

Wasn't someone looking for a copy of this?  Possibly Rosa?

The most expensive poster sold on eBay recently, The Creature from the Black Lagoon six sheet.

It sold for somewhere between $35,000 and $41,000, according to the recent "completed listings" link, which also shows a few other very nice posters.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=poster&_sop=3

A few from Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West shows.

One of these three sheets is at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, in Cody, Wyoming.

Buffalo Bill's Wild West poster of Native American Chief Red Cloud.

The third most expensive sold on eBay recently, for $12,000, In 2 Days to North America!  I'm not a fan of pieces with Nazi symbolism, although I understand the historical aspect of items from that time, this poster has awesome art of the Hindenburg Zeppelin and the Manhattan skyline.

The photo is from the Smithsonian, from this link: http://airandspace.si.edu/collections/artifact.cfm?object=nasm_A19900975000

Also from the link: Throughout their history, posters have been a significant means of mass communication, often with striking visual effect. Wendy Wick Reaves, the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery Curator of Prints and Drawings, comments that "sometimes a pictorial poster is a decorative masterpiece-something I can't walk by without a jolt of aesthetic pleasure. Another might strike me as extremely clever advertising … But collectively, these 'pictures of persuasion,' as we might call them, offer a wealth of art, history, design, and popular culture for us to understand. The poster is a familiar part of our world, and we intuitively understand its role as propaganda, promotion, announcement, or advertisement."

This one from HA today elicited a "Holy Cow!" from me:
Zona Roja - $1,015.75 (includes BP)
http://movieposters.ha.com/itm/drama/a/7101-86947.s

I do love the artwork, but I'm definitely surprised to see such a high result.  "1970s Mexican poster" and "high prices" do not usually go together.  Makes me glad I already have an unbacked copy in near-mint condition.

When looking at the the first and second place "winners" in HA's auction this weekend, it is amazing to realize that there was a $412,275.00 difference between first and second place -- with number 2 being the awesome, French 4P for King Kong, that went for $65,725.00

I think you're right Ben - the evidence lies in the fact Fay Wray's eardrum-rupturing wailing alighted a delirious state of wild simian lust

I dunno the 24 sheet only sold for $1,500 ;)

http://movieposters.ha.com/itm/adventure/the-african-queen-united-artists-1952-24-sheet-104-x-232-/a/7101-86122.s

Unless it is a different one they had been asking $5k for that for a very long time on E-Bay before dropping it to $4k.
