With an hour and 20 minutes to go, these were at $31 and would have sold there, had there not been more bidding!

Does anyone have the results from the "ONline Only" Christies' sale please? In particular, the prices achieved for the Mondo posters? Apparently Christies' will not be listing the results.

Are there no longer links to the auctions? How do the bidders know if they won?

Hi Mark, you can see the prices realized if you search for 'Film Poster' here - http://www.christies.com/results/

Interesting prices achieved (when you add in the BP and VAT). Are Mondo making the cross-over? I know the Slater Goldfinger always does well, but the Durieux prints are only a year or two old.

Thanks Mark for asking the question about Christies' sale (I was going crazy trying to figure it out) and thanks to Tob for answering it

I am glad I know now the final price for some of these posters! I dont understand why they have done it like that, their website It makes no sense!

It does seem a bit odd, maybe they are working on updating it elsewhere?

From that link I posted, I presume that if a poster isn't coming up in the search results then it perhaps didn't get a bid? e.g. La Dolca Vita

I rang Christies' this morning to be informed there would not be a separate results listing given it was an internet only auction. So your tip was very helpful Toby - thank you - although you need to remember it brings up results from earlier sales.

It was reassuring to see that all is well in the poster world of the elite collector - my benchmark is always The Jungle Book one sheet which sold for £2250 ($3800). Given their extremely recent origin the Mondo prints did very well.

Thanks Tob. I was going to ring Christies today too (thanks Mark for sharing the info)

I wanted to know the final tag for the Dolce Vita and Casablanca. I went along to see those two and love Dolce.

Good lord, no wonder my tri-folds I had kept getting snagged up by a UK buyer at 300.00 per. That was even my "I dont care if these even sell" price.

I think the Jungle Books have sold at Christies' for an average of £1500 each over the last five to ten years. They have appeared in virtually every auction. I have previously speculated that it is possibly one or two consignors who have provided most of them with some cosy arrangement with the auctioneers, which precludes any potential new consignors from participating.

Even in this rougher condition, with disclosed fold splits, stains, rips and the added "text" on the lower left, this US OS for Jezebel (1938) sold for the high bid (and there were only 2 bidders) of $7000.00, on June 19th. (Let alone the quoted $150.00 for Standard shipping!  :o )

Such a beautiful image of Davis.  bed1

And if that is a black water-based tempera paint used, it should come off pretty easily.

I think once restored, so long as the entire white background doesn't need to be airbrushed, it will look fab!

Nothing worse than that "dipped in paint" or "over airbrushed" look.

This was kindly pointed out to me, last weekend, by a fellow APF member, prior to the auction taking place. Now that it has concluded (on June 25th), this 12x16 inch French poster (30x40 cm) for King Kong, just sold thru Bonhams, for £3,750 ($6,381.00 USD).   notworthy.gif

The heavy hitter, film poster wise, from the same auction, was this 4 part advance quad for Thunderball, bringing in £4,750 ($8085.00 USD):   clap

Yes. It is a nice one. Here  is another shot of the one sold at Bonhams. The colors look slightly more mellow

Pretty cool set of B1s sold at eMovie today:

Although this film is not exactly grounded in the laws of science, of course, a lot of environmental science, dealing with similar topics, is fascinating.  It's cool that the Japanese campaign had this set of compelling images for the film.

There is some neat trivia for the movie at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0319262/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv

From IMDB: "Roland Emmerich confided that the Statue of Liberty would be turned over by the force of the massive amount of water flowing around it but said he wanted to create a symbol of American values that stood up to the forces. "

Here is an article explaining some of the science with reference to the movie: http://www.wunderground.com/resources/education/thedayafter.asp?MR=1
