Oh it finally sold...interesting.  Someone, somewhere noted that is had been heavily restored.  Hopefully buyer did their due diligence before dropping all that $

The majority of collectors though, T, don't even look at poster forums.
And most of the high end collectors don't have the time to mess around on them as they're too busy making money or have better things to do lol.

What did you base these conclusions on?  Did you talk to the "majority of collectors" and "most of the high end collectors" and/or confirm that they don't look at these forums?

An incomplete 24 sheet for The Searchers, sold for $5000.00 USD. The bottom panels are missing. It came by way of Lebanon.

Great art on that 24 sheet.  That would be really impressive displayed.   cool1

I am glad that I know the high bidder of this poster and that he/she is an honest person.

Otherwise, I would be afraid it would soon turn up in an eBay auction linenbacked, and described as being "fine" and having minor fold and border restoration!

Incidentally, if you had the above, would you just display it as is, or have the missing border areas recreated?

It's missing a lot of artwork on the left border, probably at least $400 to repair. (Look at the bird and tree in the left center - look likes it's missing a couple of inches there).

Linen-backed versions of this go for $1000 or so, so maybe not that profitable to repair:

But it would be more profitable if you did not disclose the repair.

I dare say the new owner will have it sent directly to the restorer, then have it framed and proudly hung on the wall.

Just guessing, of course...

Now you're saying "he", before it was "he/she".

Maybe it's not about the profit, maybe owning it and saving it is all that matters to the new owner; besides it's hard to see how the new owner will lose long term.

Well said, Dave.

For many... it's about appreciation of a film they have seen or can relate to... and not about the almighty dollar, in the long run.  ;)

That House on Haunted Hill had me imagining severed heads in every closet of the old house I grew up in.
And floating hags drifting in the hallways...and bloody spots that kept on dripping from the ceiling...
Ugh.  Still gives me the shivers.
Someday I should buy one of those one sheets, but I'm afraid it would just resurrect the nightmares.

The winning bid of $14,100.00 took that most recent copy of THIS GUN FOR HIRE, on ebay.   clap

The auction ended yesterday.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/THIS-GUN-FOR-HIRE-movie-poster-1942-Original-Rare-Veronica-Lake-Alan-Ladd-/111201506803?nma=true&si=4cIrX7uWhPHg0Ik6a7W2EwDrQxI%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Quite an impressive number for a piece that has been trimmed on a minimum of one side.
But perfectly serves to illustrate the point that you can start auctions on ebay for $1 and your results will be just fine as long as it's quality material.

Why?  Because of the designs.  Nothing much else like them out there in a while...  Only a print run of 1000.
