Frankie insert coming up - restoration might keep it from blowing up:

Never before seen country of origin poster for a classic si-fi whose normal CoO pieces are relatively hard to find.  I think that one may be a premier poster or something.  I was willing to pay considerably more than the top end estimate, but that price tag was too big for me.

Christ, what I would have given for that poster. The estimate was such a tease. :'(

Indeed, it appears restoration requirements held it back from realising more...

Actually I was referring to some of the restoration already on it - color correction on the Monster's face and border replacements. But obviously it did very well.....

Someone just made the comment on MoPo that $260K was about what it cost to make the movie back then...

$6500 for Marihuana (1936 US 1S) - way over estimates - pothead bidder?

The only thing I can think of is it's harvest time.  That said, I wish that had been mine.

Oh, yeah, bidder 100 can go **** himself.

That's $4.5 million now, still $292,000 is not chump change....

You should set it up to come through on email which is how it was designed to work, as a mailing list not really as a website.

Simply subscribe via email, read this: http://www.filmfan.com/pages/faq_1.html#1.1 Best thing is you can then set your email program to filter the crap posts out, ie Mexicans  ;)

Better than the original tagline of "A New Cure for Insomnia"

And here I thought my bid towards the top end of the estimate would be competitive!  I guess all it takes is two successful auteur directors two be fighting over this one to make it blow up the way it did.  I'm guessing Scorsese vs. Soderbergh, with Scorsese for the win :)

Come on guys stop letting your $$$ be controlled by arbitrary estimates - especially on unique pieces.  For HA they're really only there as a means to set a reserve.

Just bid BIG and be happy ;)

Yeah I have been ranting a lot about estimates lately but just puzzles me how so many are astonished when a poster goes far above or below...

So many posters I would have loved to bid on today... alas, all linen backed.  Shame, shame, shame.

I think this was the bargain of the day..$657...A Capra's film, Walter Brennan..Cooper and Stanwyck...rolled... and it went for a very good price.

Meet John Doe (Warner Brothers, 1941). One Sheet (27" X 41").

Good catch - I assumed that was linen-backed.  I'll add that to the rolled posters thread.

On eBay a 12 sheet for the 1917 movie The Whip sold for $5,100:

Nope. No LBd. According to HA (quote): The poster has slight edge wear, two tears in the upper border, and clear tape in the upper and lower borders. Rolled.

So it was certainly a good catch... :)
