To be fair, that item is:

A) on the uber cult movies of all time list
B) a stupid rare re-release poster that I've NEVER seen before
C) an image that shares the original soundtrack artwork puts the other english language posters to shame
C) a rolled one from the 70s

The way you are describing "emotional bidding" sounds like bidding on an item more than you know it to be worth (ala Jaws1975).  Call it esoteric, call it excitement, call it what you will, but this was an anomaly that we'll likely not see again...

Harry and I are together on this one. This showed up the day before the auctions were created, and I saw it and said, "Hold the auctions, we have one more to add" and the guys were looking at me like "You've made extra work for us for THIS?" but I had a gut feeling about this poster!

If I was made out of money it sure as hell would have.  Sadly I could only sit by and watch.  :'(

Chris, i think you were more right the first time.. an emotional bidding battle by people that really wanted it.
It happens all the time.. and certainly wont be the last.

Emotional, meaning passionate, in this case.  ;)

Seems a lot of bidders open the wallets not based on scarcity but because Bruce labels the auctions Mini/Majors!!   :-X

Charlie thought this was overpriced at $338.

What is it at THIS price?

http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=2891518

$886.00

Now that's a Wild number!  :o

When in Oct, 2011, one sold for $171.00

No homework done prior to this little "auction battle" either, seems like.

Consignments are welcome! Our next mini/major is at the beginning of June, and the consignment deadline is May 1st.

Consign now and beat the rush. It could be all of you getting these prices!

I was the winner on the one that sold for $171.  8)  It was the lowest that any of the first releases has sold for at emovie.  I was and still am stoked that I won it.  I'm not a real completist, but Mad Max is one of those movies that the art from several different countries is unique and cool in its own way, and the film is a classic.  When I was going through some of my stuff to sell, as I'm starting to focus on certain formats, themes, etc., I sent some daybills away, but I couldn't part with this one.  8)

That doesn't sound much different that labeling an auction "Signature."

I guess the upside to this kind of bidding activity is that the economies in the US and England must be enjoying a robust recovery.   wynk

It is simple math.

$15,000 give or take = a regular Sunday auction

$25,000 give or take = a regular Tuesday or Thursday auction

$250,000 give or take = a Mini/Major auction

$1,000,000 give or take = a Major auction

If the right collection comes along as a nucleus, I will have my 20th Major auction.

Until then, I am happy with exactly what I am doing!

Bruce, I don't think anybody was attacking you.  I am thrilled that you do so well, because I want to see you get more and more material that competes/surpasses what is offered at other notable poster auctions.

As your M/M auctions continue to improve in quality and quantity, then the hidden gems become more hidden and the bidding wars become more numerous. I am excited about the high bids you recieve, because that encourages more collectors to consign quality items.  All of this playful bickering amongst hobbyist is a sign of your success and is not an attack.

I did not take it as an attack in the slightest. I was merely explaining the distinctions between my different types of auctions.

I quit the major auction business some years ago for a variety of reasons, and as I said, the only thing that would cause me to return to that model would be a consignor who (for some reason) preferred their collection sold all at once, rather than over time.

When you compare my results in mini/majors to other "major" auctions (where we have the same items) I think that for the most part we get better results, which affirms for me that offering too much at once can overwhelm the bidders. In the days of live auctions it made sense to not make people travel to four auctions a year and only have one giant one, but in this Internet age there are great advantages to splitting them up over a year's time.

I too hope that our fine results on more "expensive" items will encourage more people to consign more of those items to us!

"Attack" was the wrong word choice.  I should have used "negative."  I don't see last night's results as a negative, either in terms of the bidder's bids or the prices acheived by your company.

I don't either. While there WERE many great results, there also WERE 400 items in the first three parts that went for between $1 and $40 each. Some of these were great bargains, and some were not worthy of a mini/major.
