Almost without fail, the amount that our auctions total 12 hours before the end is doubled over those last 12 hours.

So if a set of auctions total say, $12,000 at 7 AM the morning before they close, then they will total $24,000 after they close (this has proven true over the past several years, and if there is a variance from that, it is tiny). This is obviously reflective of how many people wait for the closing hours and minutes to bid.

But last night's auctions totaled just $8,800 at 7 AM and yet when they closed, they totaled $29,282, meaning they more than tripled!

Why? There were at least a dozen people like Harry Caul who were sitting at their computer mostly waiting for the Polish and Czechs, and the bidding was hot and heavy (see all the results at http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/date/2013-01-15/sort/4/archive.html)

Why did this happen? One fellow who had sold most of his Polish collection through us years ago had saved the very best, and he now needed money and sent what he had saved. Coincidentally, another fellow sent a nice collection of Polish and Czechs, and together the two made for a sensational offering, and the people who like those poster recognized what a rare opportunity this was and bid accordingly.

Bruce - out of interest, how do consignees from Europe send a large batch of posters to you? In tubes? Or is there a better way?

Tob

Sometimes they will send one VERY large box, and sometimes there will be a bunch of tubes in the box. Sometimes they send a bunch of individual tubes and boxes. I imagine that from some places it is cheaper one way and others the other way is better.

Almost all are smart enough to use really strong tubes and boxes and leave no shifting room. I just HATE when consignments arrive even slightly damaged due to insufficient packaging!

I had 117 items on my watch list and I feel lucky to have ended up with 20!

117 - that's a lot of screens - without the ability to snipe!

In one of the shots the poster is out of the frame so does not look like an issue but it does appear to be, in that shot, to be separating from the backing in the top left.

Chris.. it looks like the seller used the frame/plexi to hold the poster flat. Look at the top of the frame, above the linen edge and u can see the floor showing in the gap. Doh!  ;)

Yeah it is hard to tell.  Maybe he had it framed up that way?

I saw that this R50's quad (per seller's description) for House of Frankenstein just sold on Jan 14, for $250.00. The previous time it was listed at $300.00, it had no takers. It looks to be in fine shape, too, with crisp folds, and edged that aren't tattered or chipped:

You do have to be very careful with these Eros re-release posters, as they were some of the first (British anyway ) posters to be reproduced. It is best to see them in person, as the paper is a tell-tail sign...

Paul, does that copy look to clean and crisp, in your opinion, to be an original RR from the 1950s?

Also the paper looks too thick, as much as you can tell from the pic. The Eros posters were printed on very thin stock, maybe half the thickness of standard paper, it also has a different feel to the paper.  Fingers crossed for the fellow who bought it.
