Star Wars posters!

Looks like I might be under estimating the delay. From an article from Pete Vilmur, the first dated photo with the poster in a theater is from late July!

I've been investigating the so called "teal" ESB R82 poster. Several known examples have a very dark patch running down the middle, here is an example from an old EMP sale to show what I'm talking about.

Does anyone know what would cause this? I imagine it's a problem with one of the plates or the ink on one of the plates? But why would the color be OK on most of the plate but not in the center?

That's a good question, I'd like to know too. I own a couple of those posters and they both have the same identical darker blue markings. Maybe Undead, our resident SW expert, knows the answer.

I recently bought this Bulgarian Empire poster. Another one I can scratch off my want list, which seems endless when it comes to Star Wars.

I'm glad you got that Bulgarian ! And what a great price compared to the last one offered on EMP (which might be the same exact example?) I think I know who that consignor was, he seems to have sent lots of items to the various auction houses recently.

I was watching that one. Not even slightly surprised it went to you, congrats.

I have seen the stripe discoloration many times in all forms of printing from posters to comic books but never felt a need to research it at any length as it appears to be a very common and basic printing defect that happens at the beginning of a print run. These are not at all uncommon when start the print run as the ink is not a balanced mixture for lack of a better term. As they print more sheets, these defects go away and the rest of the print run is completed as normal. Usually when these occur at the beginning of the run, they are considered throw aways and tossed.

That was my guess too as something not right with the start of the run that gets corrected as it goes. Thanks!

Thanks. I've let a lot of Star Wars stuff go by over the years, for lack of interest or attention (it was very hard there for a few years raising 3 young kids) but no more. Now I'm paying attention and I'm a completist. I know it will be impossible at this point to complete my collection (I'm too cheap) but I will try to get as close as I can. My 11 year old son has already told me that it was his, so I need to make him proud hahaha

I forgot to post here. I posted an article on the Star Wars Collecting Archive about my investigation in the "teal" R82 poster.

TL;DR it's a "white title, progressive proof" where the extra 2 final plates of specific full tone pantone colors were not added on top of the CMYK plates. Most of the teal posters out there have noticeable quality control issues like misregistration or streaking so they were probably trashed before the more expensive extra colors were applied.

Big Star Wars sale this past weekend. Overall, prices were a little low, even though a few specific pieces went for higher (SW Russion $7,500) (SW 6sht $8,125) (SW Hungarian $4,000) (ESB 40x60in $5,750) (ESB B1 Ohrai $4,250) (Jedi 6sht $12,500). These are just for the ones I already own, I didn't keep track of the rest. So some good and bad. Really bad timing, should have been tied with Grogu next year, no advertising from HA, too many posters, not enough $$$ out there, too many big sales happening at the same time, etc.

I got 6 posters all together, but I was most happy to get this Hong Kong ESB at a low price. It is quite hard to get and had been on my list for some times. Not in great shape, but it will do until I find a better one. Yeah, right! As if!

I like the Hong Kong SW posters and that Empire is my fave of the 3. Nice pick up T. Which other ones did you get form the auction, I couldn't see any others on your website front page?

I just had a look at the results...that was a nice collection. A shame to split it up! But I'm sure they went to good homes. A few I had never seen before.

You know I post less than 10% of my new acquisitions on the website's main page. I just post stuff that I find relevant, for one reason or another.

I just got a bunch of fillers, mostly. A couple ESB 30x40in, an insert, and a set of 4 Return of the Jedi Double Crowns. Nothing to scream about but stuff I needed.

The stuff I would I wanted most I couldn't afford, unfortunately. It's Christmas, between gifts and traveling, it's not the best time to spend discretionary money on posters.

What's kind of funny is that the guy who sold this collection lives in the same small town than me. About a mile away. We don't know each other, but I'm sure we crossed each other's path at some point. The good thing about this sale is that it makes me the largest Star Wars poster collector of my town. Now that's something to scream about :)

That is a crazy coincidence that you live so close to the consignee. Imagine having so many Star Wars posters within a mile of each other! Your combined collections would have formed a pretty comprehensive archive. I was reading about the 'Lucas Museum of Narrative Art' being built in LA, I wonder if they'll have a lot of posters/art on display? It looks a huge space, so I hope so.

Also, I may as well share this set I got recently. I know the sequel trilogy is a much maligned, but I recently did a re-watch of the 9 films because my youngest had never seen them and I really enjoyed The Force Awakens. He loved the films and is now a full on Star Wars fan. We're currently watching the Clone Wars animated series and the Mandalorian.

So I decided to pull the trigger on this set of Japanese B1s. They're quite boring designs, but I have always liked a character poster set.

That's a good video. It's funny, the guy spent all this time putting it together but doesn't own any, or very few of them. I would never think of advertising posters I'd like to get down the line. But that's me. I'm not that generous hahaha. Thanks for posting.

And nice B1 set. As a completist, I am jealous. I suck at getting Japanese posters.

Nice Jedi Double Crowns T. They take me back to when the film was originally released, which unfortunately makes me feel quite old now!

As mentioned in the post auction analysis thread

Between Propstore and Heritage, I won a set of signed Supersnipe prints- two from Propstore and two from Heritage. I begged Zach at Heritage to keep the signed set of four matching numbered prints together so that they would still be kept together even if it meant I could get outbid. But he felt splitting them into separate lots would make more money and he was right about that!

The Propstore set of two matching McQuarrie signed prints that I won sold for less than half of their counterpart's prices when they sold at Heritage a month later. And the Heritage ones were in worse shape!

I wonder how many matching sets of all 4 Supersnipe prints are still together after 48 years. I would guess fewer than 5 sets.
