I would also make the observation that anything marked "collectable" isn't.

Look at that Darth vader figure.  Highly valuable now, but in its day it was meant to be played with and abused.  The survivors are worth bucks now simply because they are rare and everyone remembers them.  The "collectables" OTOH are things that everyone put away and never played with, so there are now a ton available.

I agree. Unfortunately, many companies make a ton of money marketing 'collectibles' to idiots who don't know better. I think one of the worst culprits are those non-official coins that they advertise on TV. Or even the official US Mint coins that they add $0.001 worth of gold plating on and sell for 10-100x face value. I wouldn't be surprised if they are already minting "Boston Marathon Memorial" coins with the hopes of cashing in on that tragedy like they did 9/11.

Fine artwork I got during the 30th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back. Originally Star Wars Shop sent me #50/100 and when I inspected it for damages the top left corner was bent... I e-mailed them and they refused to work with me. I asked them if it was possible to send me a number lower then 50 since it would be of lesser value. When they stopped returning my e-mails all together my wife saw how frustrated I was and contacted the actual artist. She e-mailed my wife and sent an Artist Proof and even paid for the shipping herself. The following day Star Wars Shop sent me an e-mail saying they'd send me one of the first 10 if I would tell the Artist the matter was resolved. So I got #5/100 and got them both framed!

Tried uploading small versions of these photos... told me to contact an admin cause the board was full?

We have had several silver, but we've never seen one of these in gold before.

Could someone explain to me the difference in lettering on the bottom of The Empire Strikes back posters? The only difference I can see is that one is folded and one isn't.

Looks like the rolled one is studio release version and folded is NSS?

Yup. There is an International version (two actually) which is identical except for the lack of PG rating and it says "INTERNATIONAL" on the bottom.

Thanks! It seems like there is so much I don't know yet. I just want to make sure to get a legit US theater poster.

Orz... Just got off the phone with Micheal's where I am getting my Return of the Jedi movie poster framed... They didn't order the correct matte size so now they have to re-size the frame, glass and matte and it's going to be another week before I can get my poster back...

Be careful with Michaels!  Just make sure they frame your stuff properly...

How would I make "sure" they frame it right? I only go through a certain individual there ( they've done great work in the past multiple times for me ) and they've never let me down until now. I can't be sure that the improperly measured matte was even their fault.

I mean in terms of having it framed with archival principles - there have been horror stories around these parts of Michaels (and other framers for that matter) dry mounting posters, using non acid free materials, taping the poster inside the frame etc...

Both are being sold at EMP, so you know they are legit. Worst case scenario, even years down the road, if you determine that the poster somehow wasn't legit, Bruce will buy it back from you. Zero risk.

Thanks for the kind words, Enki!

Plus, we refund return shipping.

Today we got a phone call from a guy we tracked down because SEVEN years ago we sold him an Italian one-panel as original, and we just found out it is an unmarked re-released. We e-mailed him last week and he called to say he would return it, and when I said "Be sure to tell us your return shipping cost" he acted like it was an unreal conversation!

If there is ANY other auction anywhere that does this, I want to know about it!

And of course, we do a TON of research to try to make certain we hardly ever sell any repros, because we don't want to lose money refunding them, and I would bet anything we make far fewer mistakes than any other auction (especially ones that auction 100,000+ items a year)
