Asks our resident expert, Holiday.  He knows all about Japanese posters.  He may even have one of those.  Heck, he's got everything else, so why not.

To throw another curveball into the mix, according to japanesemoviepostercompany not all Japanese posters have an Eirin mark.

As a general rule, all posters for movies released in Japan after late 1965 have an Eirin mark.
I have seen posters for films released after 1965 without an Eirin mark, but those were for extremely limited releases (i.e. a handful of cinemas in Japan) and I can only think of a few. Definitely all releases by major studios have an Eirin mark. No exception.

I scoured the web, including Holiday's excellent website, and could not find another The Big Lebowski B1.

If this is your poster (http://www.emovieposter.com/gallery/inc/archive_image.php?id=10729052) then unfortunately it is an ad for the home video release.

1. BIG LEBOWSKI was released theatrically in Japan on November 11th, 1998
2. The release date on the poster states Friday (金) October 8th as the release date, which was in 1999.
3. On the bottom of right of the poster, next to the date, it says 同時発売 (doji hatsubai), which means roughly translated "on sale everywhere".

That IS unfortunate, but more for US than HIM, because we will take it back for a full refund, if he wants to return it. Of course, had he bought it at any other major auction, he would have no recourse.

Thanks for letting us know.

I'd say more so for Neo. The $ to me is less the problem and more the time invested in it.

Have you ever seen a theatrical B1?  Or do you know if they exist?

I think it is very likely they produced a B1 for the release in Japan. But I don't recall ever seeing one.
I would say that the home video B1 that NeoLoco has is unusual. I have seen a lot of B2 posters for video releases, but not B1 sizes.

Plus he had it backed and restored...  But if he doesn't want it; I'll take it!

Yes, looking in the sales history and knowing it's such a unique image I think he still got a bargain!

I would thank you, Armin, but now I have to sell that Big Lebowski B1.  Naw, it's still one of my favorites, and I appreciate knowing more about it.  Translating Asian languages seems like it would be very difficult, but I should have thought about checking the dates, especially since the one printed on it is in English numerals, although Japanese numerals would probably not be as difficult to translate as Japanese text.

because we will take it back for a full refund

Mighty kind of you to offer the refund, Bruce, but I'm still stoked to own it.  cool1

I think that is a very good decision. The poster has a great image for a great movie. And I am sure that there is not many of those posters around.

Not exactly movie posters but close relatives. I think they add a bit of class and a touch of the old neighbor hood theater to the display.

And two new additions to the stairway, DTESS and ICFOS.

Very nice Lyn - I have contemplated picking up a couple of those "daily display signs" but never have

If I come for a visit and bring my own cot, can I spend one night in each room?
Absolutely gorgeous.
