Authentication B2 japanese Ghibli :)

Hello everyone

Sorry for my english i'm french !

I'm asking the community for advice if anyone is really knowledgeable about original Ghibli posters.
I purchased two posters:

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

and

Princess Mononoke (1997)

In Japanese B2 format.

I know there are a huge number of reproductions. I bought mine from a poster shop that's been around since 1998 and they confirmed that they are authentic (period) and not reproductions.

They also issued me two certificates of authenticity.

I'd like to share a few photos with you for your viewing pleasure, as well as for your advice for those who are
more familiar with them!

From what I have seen, the reprints look very fresh and new, so because your Princess Mononoke has soft tri-folds, hopefully that is a good sign. But it is very hard to tell, unfortunately.

Thanks for your feedback, TOB. I've already checked the available links, but it's true that if I can get the community's opinion, it's always nice to hear it! I agree with the tri-folding of Mononoke, which is typical of the posters used, if I'm not mistaken!

I don't know what to think about Grave of the Fireflies.

The owner of the store where I bought it told me that he's been in contact with a Japanese man for over 20 years, and they exchange French movie posters for Japanese ones for their collections. Plus, the certificates of authenticity and the quality of the tiny print make me lean toward originals.

But I'm no expert, haha.

The Mononoke looks good to me, as for the Fireflies I really couldnt say one way or the other right now. But maybe one day we have enough comparisons and info to confirm it.

Fireflies paper looks off, but thats just me.

Regarding COA's... huge sigh.. I get asked about this all the time. To be blunt, a COA is absolutely not worth the paper they are printed on. The only COA's for any collectible that does anything to help authenticate, is 3rd party authentication companies, and that is the sole purpose of the company. CGC, PSA, Becket etc..

ANY dealer, that sends you a COA with a movie poster, is printing it for the sole purpose of giving you a warm and fuzzy feeling that your purchase is all good.

Id be inclined to agree with this. Theres certainly places I might trust less or more with stating something is original or not but these COA papers from the sellers themselves arnt a guarantee unfortunately and in some unrelated cases I even know where the authentication has been wrong, if even just slightly. Not necessarily for nefarious reasons, just from lack of due diligence about specifics.

I really wish this place was more bustling, like Discogs and other forums are for vinyl records. Because while its still a jungle, practically any relevant record in existence can be authenticated down to the year, country, plant, etc in just a few minutes.
You just need a small community of enthusiasts to compare and contrast the hidden differentiators and a space to catalog and organize the info.

One of our members has created a database tool which is similar to Discogs in that you can catalogue your collection and users can add global notes, variants etc. There are quite a few Ghibli posters in there already - https://posterama.io/ - It also has a Discord channel which is quite active with people chatting about posters.

It is a shame that forums have lost so many members to social media. For example, trying to search for historic information on Facebook is impossible. Having a forum gives you a really useful historic archive, although at cost to T and Holiday (thanks both for funding the forum).
