Dude, I would have gone much higher.  For things I really want, like this piece, I just keep hitting the Bid button until the other party gives up.  And I do it quick.  So the other party knows I'm not thinking about it haha.

100% you would have won it but I would have probably pushed it a little higher before quitting.  :)

I could see how your strategy works at HA (these bids are going very quick!) but at EMP I typically play the long game.  I usually wait the entire 5 minutes before re-bidding but every once in a while I will bid aggressively.

Quote from: eatbrie on August 24, 2025, 09:25:47 PMDo you live at Moore & Varick?

T

Lol I wish!  I'm not too far from the Ghostbusters firehouse though, as I also live downtown: I'm in the Village, right by Washington Square Park.  Funny enough, there's another connection to that movie since the place is rumored to be haunted: every year during Halloween, there's even a tour guide telling gullible folks the story of Firefighter Schwartz whose ghost has allegedly been seen haunting the top floor of the firehouse (it's all BS of course but this is one of those urban legends that refuses to dies lol!).  Needless to say, I've never encountered any spectral activity in all my years living here, much to my disappointment I might add...

T

Unsuccessful. Put several very low (i.e., single digit $) pre-auction bids in on several items. During the auction I did some live bids on a few of those items but didn't want to go very high on anything so I tapped out pretty early. Maybe one item I got to $90 or $100 with a few back and forth with a live bidder , but I decided to just save my money for EMP this week. Plus we finally started watching White Lotus S3 a few nights ago and I decided I rather share a bottle of wine and a charcuterie board with my spouse and pay attention to the show, than listen to the robot auctioneer for another 30-45 min!

I'll probably keep an eye on HA as there definitely seems like there are some things nobody bids on so if I were interested I could get some items for $30 or $34.

But thanks to you and Antoine for the advice and tips. I will be sure to look carefully at the photos and even ask for additional ones if necessary. It is funny though because sometimes I don't even bother looking at the super size image at EMP and just bid based solely on the grading because I trust them so much.

White Lotus is very frustrating. With slighter tighter writing, and fewer wildly improbably scenes, the show could be a classic. And somebody loves the underwater camera they got for Christmas, because they use it all the time!
We (eMoviePoster.com) hold 3,000 to 4,000 auctions every four weeks.
We have auctioned more movie paper for more money (in real sales) than any auction in the world.
We have the longest continuously running auctions of any auction, with over TWO MILLION to date from over 3,461 consignors.
See all of our current auctions in one gallery here: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/all.html

Haha there is a lot of underwater footage you are right! I can agree with you on the writing to an extent, especially if you are talking S3 specifically. I feel like we watched the first two seasons a while ago and it is hard to remember all of the details let alone moderate to major plot points sometimes, but I feel like I enjoyed them just fine. Nevertheless, it's still better than a lot of other stuff out there in my opinion. I'm not even sure we have anything earmarked to watch next...

Yeah, you'll have to do it live.  But be careful, because its just the push of a button and it goes so fast, its very easy to go at it and overpay.  Give yourself a definite limit before you bid.

Quote from: skyjackers on August 22, 2025, 05:06:06 AMIs it International 1-sheets you don't trust as a whole, or just Jaws 50? I have to say, if it was me, I'd still buy one just in case, especially as you're not purchasing to resell down the line.

I am sure I own a bunch of reprints, there is no way around that, actually a few that I bought knowingly, but I try very hard to limit the intake.  I will not buy international posters anymore, unless the design is so cool that I cannot pass it.  I simply do not trust them.  In the case of Jaws, I really wanted to own the design and I know that the bus shelter is the only verifiable authentic piece.  99% of sellers don't care and will pass reprints as authentic, a handful of them with integrity do not know for sure and warn the potential buyer.  I will still buy from them.

Miffed the Alien Earth didnt have one sheets. Have a good Hulu source through Disney right now but they wont offer up the large format stuff, assume just the logistics of them are to big of a hassle. Those bus are nice!

I'm amazed the amount of money Netflix and Disney must have spent marketing Wednesday and Alien Earth.

Wednesday in particular has had premieres all over the world with a huge amount of marketing material produced (not that I've been able to get much) Alien has had some pretty elaborate marketing too.

I agree, those bus Shelters are cool and must have bumped up the numbers on your Alien collection. I'm surprised you did go for the full set.

I got one more, which I haven't received yet, the eggs.  I'll post a picture when I get it.  That's it for me.  I really don't care about the dude's face, the smily earth, the double face (alien and girl) or the cube thingy with the alien on top.  Those are bad, imo.  I got the ones I wanted.  7 out of 11 ain't bad.  They're especially hard to get because I don't want any hanging holes or any kind of damages on them.  I like mint, and mint means patience haha

Those Alien Earth posters are very cool, T. I'm excited to watch the show, but I'm waiting until all eps are available so I can binge it.

Also love that BttF3 Subway. I remember Bottleneck Gallery releasing that art as an 18 x 24" print, I always assumed it was just one of Drew's unused designs. I love to see poster designs for modern-ish films that I didn't know existed.

Thanks, and you should.  It's great.

Here's the last one for me, the Egg version.  I can now cross this title out: Alien Collection

Really cool to see them all together in a side by side by side by side.....

Seeing them this way it is interesting how many different ways the designers decided to place the text and logos in relation to each other.

For the LOTR fans. Not sure if I have a full set or not. Thinking these are pretty rare in one sheet size. Not a lot of the Amz, Netflix stuff seems to get out into the wild. I requested all available, and they had singles or 2 only of all but 2 styles, and of those I got a big 5.

struzaholic

Awesome finds Dale!  Are these all for S1?  Or some for S2 as well?  While I am plus-minus on the show, I will no doubt continue to tune in for S3 and beyond if they decide to keep going.

morphine

Some Egyptian posters picked up from a local seller this weekend.

Don't know much about Egyptian posters but I liked the different images on Taxi Driver and Batman. And of course Jaws is the classic image.

angelflyover

Nice Egyptian posters,morphine

Very nice, angelflyover! I have been collecting these too. Are the Boy and the Heron posters full size? I have only seen the third design at full size...I'll have to hunt the other two down.

The art for Laputa is lovely (as were the Chinese posters for Spirited Away and Totoro!).

Tob

Morphine - I like that Egyptian Taxi Driver poster, I hadn't seen that one before.

These are really cool, Dale. We only had a single quad design here in the UK (which was similar to the middle bottom row design).

Thanks Tob,agree fully .They are full size, same dimensions as the third design, about 75 x 105 cm. I believe the third design is China B (Advance)(前期海报) ,first design is China A (Teaser)(预告海报) and second design is China C (final)(定稿海报).
