When the July Heritage catalog came out, there was one poster that was a delightful surprise to me in Session III. I hoped not many would notice it, and was sure glad to win it! It's the giant AO+ sized German poster for
The Song of Love (1925 release in Germany it looks like from the approval stamp date). The art on this poster is beautiful stone lithography, with rich shades of reds and blues along with white and cream popping out. This movie starring Norma Talmadge is based on Margaret Peterson's book
Dust of Desire. Interestingly, I found at a flea market many years ago the original painting by Russel Crofoot for the U.S. first edition of
Dust of Desire. I included images for both the book cover painting and German poster here. Also, if you would like to read why Ms. Talmadge said "I love the sea" 104 years ago this month, please check out Stanford's archive of the August 1915 issue of
Photoplay.
