Thanks Jeff!  thumbsup.gif yeah, these are mine...wish I had deep pockets for some of those beauties from the 60s and 70s, but I’m an 80s kid so these make me smile too.

Tob!  You just kicked the 80s straight in the butt and came out smelling like sweet poster goodness. Nice going!  Okie

Really like the original Nightmare Quad. Great quads too Tob. Always loved both the films and the posters for 'The Lost Boys' and 'Big Trouble in Little China', takes me back to my childhood! I don't have many quads left now but I always liked these:

Nice, Skyjackers. I've been meaning to buy one of those Graveyard Shift quads for years, it's a striking image!

Great Hitchcock posters. The Birds "is" coming doesn't sound right somehow but it must be grammatically correct.

Liked the quad from earlier in the thread for The American Friend as well. Bruno Ganz was always watchable, sad about his passing recently.

Never seen the Birds advance.

Curious that in the advance it was 'The birds is coming'.  A capital B would have corrected the syntax, 'The Birds is coming'.  Otherwise it looks like it should read 'The birds are coming.'

There is a trade ad on ebay with a title "The birds is flying high!" - reporting on the first week's box office takings at the Odeon Leicester Square where the film premiered in the UK. I'm thinking mine was perhaps a teaser quad used exclusively for Odeon.

^ thanks. i have a double page Birds trade ad from Kinematograph Weekly July 25 1963 (type attached by gum, so if you find the mag there is no guarantee the poster will be there..). the ad uses the well known artwork but is on a yellow background like that advance (also says 'Rank release October 13th book it now')

^ Birds UK premiere was 10 September 1963, the ad showing takings from initial run uses same font for "the birds are flying high" that is used on the advance poster strongly suggesting the advance was used at odeon, leicester sq for that premiere (my trade ad from july doesn't use that font - or have poor syntax!). this is all a guess on my part of course ;D would this have been shown all over uk? if so where are they. anyone seen more copies? maybe school teachers forced a recall ;D

I have a Double Crown for this, even more scarce than the Quad, but there will have been other showings around the country at this time, so I don't think the posters are exclusive to the Odeon, just stating what the takings are there on that poster, Leicester Square Odeon is more of an industry Yardstick...

It's just a personal theory Paul. The marketing campaign in the UK was very London-centric with photocalls in Trafalgar Square (for pigeons), Tower of London (for ravens) and the London Zoo aviary. Given the scarcity of this teaser and that trade-ad I was thinking there may have been an exclusive initial run at the Odeon.

"The birds is coming" was a deliberate marketing slogan Hitchcock thought up, to get people talking.

Still only have one quad - need to get some more, especially love those double bills.

Only one Quad? But this is an excellent one to have. Wouldn't say no to have this in my collection. :)

I really liked this movie when it first came out.  Now, I feel bad about Clyde and it's not the same movie for me anymore.  It is a cool poster, though!  Don't tell anyone, but If it came down to it and Clyde needed a safe home and couldn't go back to the wild, I'd still like to give him a ride in my pickup.  Okie

One thing about British posters, there was a lot made that look amazing using a Blacklight.

I think UK  Cinemas missed a trick here....
