Black Swan
« on: October 23, 2010, 04:00:49 PM »
Well, I've just seen Black Swan at the London Film Festival, and......................................... .
Prepare to be dazzled, as only Aronofsky can.

Intense and sensual, were just 2 of my feelings upon leaving this screening. Portman is simply mesmerizing, giving an intensity rarely seen from her before. Her ballet scenes are amazing, with the final dance sequence/denouemant knocking it out of the park.

The film is a sensation. It looks stunning, indelible images abounding, with anxiety levels ratcheting up as the horror undertones and imagery increase.

Elements of Polanski, Cronenberg and Powell and Pressburger abound, but ultimately this is clearly another Aronofsky original.

Don't let the Ballet element put you off, this is just amazing cinema.

Just back from the Aronofsky Screentalk at the LFF.

A very thoughtful and articulate director. I can't believe that he has struggled to finance every one of his films, including Black Swan which he claims proved the most difficult. it's a sad fact that he worries about dwindling cinema audiences and the possibility of iPod/iPad style releases for the audiences of the future.

Go see Black Swan, and maybe make his next film a little easier to finance.
