However, I have a B0 that is still made from 2xB1, but they turned the B1s sideways so the poster is 29"x80" panoramic landscape!

You can't tease us with stuff like this.

Was "King Size" in reference to the 3xB1 that Jeff pictured?  Or was your response to my post about the 3xB0?

Three B1, vertical.
I am going by memory now. Don't have these posters in front of me.

Sorry!  My current vacuum board can't handle anything bigger than an Arg 1-sheet. Plans are afoot for vac board 3.0, however -- same as my current design but big enough for a French 1-panel. Then I can finally shoot B0s without having to tile several shots together (and more importantly manage the overhang without risk of damage).

Tease #2: It's a Kurosawa!  ;)

Here are a few I got earlier this year. They are both B1's. Clash and Wrath!!! I like them much better than their US OS counterparts.

Also posted in my Marquee Poster "coming soon" thread, but I thought it would be appropriate here too...

This is the "double wide" B0 I was talking about.

Sword of Doom, 1966 Japanese B0 81x28in (206x72cm)

Instead of taking two B1s and lining them up side-by-side, this layout aligns them end-to-end for a super-panoramic image almost 7' wide!  At a width:height ratio of 2.86:1 it's even wider than Ben Hur, which was 2.76:1 :)

You need nothing else, then.  ;)

That's not the half of it... everything on my site will get the hi-res treatment (you can make out the 1/32" marks), both front and back.  If I have anything listed that was linen-backed, it will have hi-res before and afters as well.   8)

For the pixel peepers:
Sword of Doom B0 Left-Front
Sword of Doom B0 Right-Front
Sword of Doom B0 Left-Back
Sword of Doom B0 Right-Back

Been kinda curious about this. So some Japanese B2s have two different styles, featuring different art, while it seems others only have one style. Is this true or were they always released with two different styles and for whatever reason one of the styles is extremely rarer than the other?

I would think this is similar to many other countries that may have 2 (or more) designs (style A, B, C etc) for the same film. One version may become much more popular or collectible with the poster folks and then the price can take off, as others clamber to get a copy themselves.

It's not that the collectible version was printed in less quantity (tho that could be the case); it's just that one style catches "fire" and is The version to have.

Yeah that's what I'm assuming too Jeff. I would think they would be printed in the same quantity as well but it's curious that sometimes the alternate style never pops up for a certain movie, i.e the other style for Deep Red. You would think there would be at least one copy still floating around...  ???

Matt, is that an added/attached snipe on the lower, left corner? If so, it certainly works pretty well and isnt all that intrusive. I like the calligraphic  style used on it, too. And what a great looking poster, overall.

Have you translated the snipe (or already know what it reads)?

It's printed, but I'm not sure what it says.  I do believe it's a "tie-up" poster, though, as they are referred to in Japan.

I just looked at your 'supersize' image of that corner, also.

I'm curious, too, how the letter "S" at the right of the snipe, works into the translation.

Sure looks like it, Matt.

I did a google translate from the first product on the homepage. It came back as:

"Popon S has 8 types of vitamins and two minerals (calcium, magnesium) and is a multivitamin that has been balanced & mixed. In order to continue to spend vigorously healthy, daily exercise, diet, we will support the improvement of lifestyle by adding Popon S."

And further on (literal translation):

Popon S Royal, the maintenance of health promotion, is a vitamin-containing health drugs formulated with 8 kinds of vitamins and two minerals needed for nutrition. In addition, royal jelly that nutrients such as amino acids are included in the rich, blended α- lipoic acid derivative thioctic acid amide is, the extract of Ryuugan'niku is an herbal ingredient, will support the maintenance of your health.

Very interesting.

Two quick answers to the discussions / questions above:

1. Different poster styles
Depends on the release and the distributor. Most films only have one "official" B2 artwork (I am not including the chihoban / country style posters from the 50's ans 60's). There did not seem to have been a common strategy for when releases had more than one poster. Some big releases have only one style whereas small releases have sometimes two or even more. Most posters for a single film I have counted was six (first release of BLOOD FOR DRACULA).

2. Tie up posters
I have seen this sometimes, mostly on larger size posters, but also on B2s. Toho studios seemed to have used this co-marketing approach most often, probably because of their position as market leader.

A couple of other examples:

The Cannonball Run/Budweiser tie up B2

The Godfather/Suntori tie up B1

Thanks, e.

Here's a B2 size for The Last Emperor (1987); this being the less common "gold foil" style.

The slight finger prints, seen near the bottom, thankfully did disappear after gently wiping it with a soft cloth.
