I don't know whether to cry or punch something...
« on: August 21, 2015, 11:24:49 PM »
Well, I finally found another rare poster to add to my Chuck E. Cheese collection. It's from the late 1970s and is one of the few images from the period when he smoked a cigar.

I bought it through another board from another member. The guy is also a CEC collector and was selling expensive reprints of the parody posters like he one I had restored earlier, so I figured he knew how to ship a poster safely. Well, I figured wrong. I have an account at the local UPS Store where they hold my packages for me. You can imagine the sinking feeling I got when they handed me this.

I haven't opened the box yet, but it doesn't even feel like there's a tube inside. It's not so much the money, the thing that really pisses me off is there are very few of these and now there's one less in nice condition. It survived 35+ years and now it's ruined because of bad shipping.  :-[

Sorry to see that parcel arrive that way, kobun.  :'(  Doh.gif

I had one arrive similar to this about a month and a half ago. I got in touch with the seller, who was more than apologetic, after I sent him pics. He offered a partial refund as well. I also opened the parcel with trepidation; luckily, the crease to the piece wasnt horrible, it was a "soft" crease, and several days of pressing corrected the issue.

Hopefully, your seller will be amenable and work with you on this, should there be any damage to the poster.

That looks brutal - must say though, no matter who they are, if I haven't bought from them in the past, I will always provide a bullet pointed list of how I want the thing posted.  And then offer more postage to ensure the know I am serious.

Apologies for the future if I ever buy from people on this board whose name I don't recognise - nothing personal of course.

Hope you can sort something out with the seller, fella.

Is that an infamous USPS triangle tube?  They are the scourge of posters collectors everywhere...

Nah - this the all new and stronger version, the Square Tube.

Indestructible, they say.

what's wrong with the manufacture of this tube?

at least 1 I can see and one I know
what I can see - if the corrugation went the length of the box, that in itself would strengthen it tremendously
the other is that the cardboard is probably only .65 thickness and should be at least .8 if not a little more.

oh.. there is a third thing: it should have a note saying "if you aren't smart enough to stuff this box with peanuts packing to prevent it from being crushed, expect an angry email"

Simes is correct. It's some kind of long, square box and doesn't have nearly the strength required to keep a poster safe. They also didn't bother putting any padding in side, so the poster banged around inside the whole trip. I've sent it back for a refund and sent the seller a link to the poster shipping guide on moviepostercollectors.com so hopefully there won't be any more victims. Doh.gif

Hopefully the refund came thru to you without a hitch, too.
