That's an excellent monocled magician you've got there Deke!

As for the 'Magic' book, I genuinely think that I'd have any edition rather than none whatsoever. Although a few images might have been left out of the most recent edition there are so many of them to begin with, that you're never going to feel robbed. In fact I don't believe there's a single page - other than the chapter headings - which doesn't have at least one decent image bobbing about in it somewhere. What you will find however is that a lot of the writing is 'duplicated' as it's a trilingual book with captions in English, German and French. But as I said, it's so image heavy that you cannot help but delight in it. As far as magic poster are concerned I don't think there can be a better reference.

My favourite of all films of the genre are ones about charlatans and few are better than Nightmare Alley. A melodramatic sleaze parading as a (really well done) noir. Tyrone Power carries the film wholly. It's a pity he never got another role quite like it. Bonus +++ for the carny (another fav interest) settings.

I'd like to find a copy of that poster, too. The old and new world art elements are just amazing. Looks to be dated 1967.

Lucifer Rising, with  Jagger and Faithfull.   Music wrote in jail by Beausoleil (an associate of the Charles Manson) because Jimmy Page was too high on coc/hero and unable to complete the OST.  The movie itself is average but the music is not bad if you like smooth rock-prog/esoteric Kautrok stuff.

You can get a signed poster (KENNETH ANGER SIGNED LTD PRINT OF THE 1980 LUCIFER RISING PREMIERE POSTER) for 150 USD - http://www.kennethanger.org/new-products/kenneth-anger-signed-ltd-print-of-the-1980-lucifer-rising-poster

Yeah, the poster is from '67. I believe it was just for screenings, it isn't much bigger than 14 x 19 inches.

ladeda, I see the poster is signed on the lower right, by Rick Griffin.

I really like how he incorporated Gustave Dore's killer image of Dante being carried by an Eagle and then created the title, top area and side pillars to create this poster image. It's really powerful.

all i have in my info for the poster is 1960s? little bit scant on the info?
although i was under the impression it was 1973 for some reason?
but i guess from my digging i must have come up with 60s?.
so i think the simple answer is, dunno?
haha :)

Curse of the Demon I would say is Tourneur's masterpiece. It's worse for the silly shots of the demon and it can't wholly recover from that, but it holds up incredibly well. There will always be something eerie about the English countryside and Tourneur, a master of atmosphere exploits it well.

The Italian 4-fogli is grand:

The film is also a bit legendary for Kate Bush's use of: "It's in the trees, it's coming!" in Hounds of Love.

A pretty cool looking magic poster from 1910, showing magician, Nordini, and his flaming cauldron escape illusion.

I had the pleasure of going to this exhibition in Montreal with Dave Rosen (Posteropolis) recently! It was stunning. There is a big book published with a lot of the posters.

ILLUSIONS: THE ART OF MAGIC
The exhibition takes on the period of magic shows’ golden age and its advertising and promotional mechanisms that relied on phantasmagoric imagery. Discover a selection of breathtaking posters featured for the first time in Canada, mostly dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, that retraces the social history of this still active phenomenon.
