I've considered picking that up many times - might have to take look into it again!

I was lucky enough to grab a copy at Christmas. It's an absolutely wonderful book. Worth noting however that there are two editions. The first edition is apparently some 116 pages longer than Taschen's later release...

I have the first edition.  Here is a GREAT breakdown of what's different the editions from a post in the the GENII magic forum.  Look for RICHARD HATCH on the page and you will find the information.  This chap really did his work.

I have the full edition too. Thankfully Amazon still had some copies in the UK warehouse. Not a book for easy casual browsing but excellent for cowering under should a missile attack be imminent.

I think I'll lock myself in a room with this beast for about a week.  The poster images inside are amazing.

Well, post some interior scans for us before the pages get stuck together.

Nick I'm curious if yours come with a slip case to slide the book into for safe keeping?  I noticed for the first printing there was a video of somebody who took that huge monster out of a slip case like the newer smaller edition has.  Others have mentioned it as well.

By the way, I can't believe I spelled "weighs" as "ways".  I don't even drink. Doh.gif

Hi Mike! Mine didn't come with a slipcase but this might have been missing as it was a warehouse deal. The book was supposedly slightly damaged - but it wasn't, it's cardboard box was. Looking online I've seen mention of full editions with and without the slipcase. To be honest I'm just delighted to get the complete number of pages.

Here are a few random snaps for those interested. Photos only I'm afraid as I would have needed a giant scanner made of cast iron to accommodate it otherwise. It is undoubtedly THE historical magic reference book. When opened wide, it's a whopping 17.5 inches by 26 inches!

Thanks so much for the info Nick.  Mine was a used deal as well.  No slip cover or box for me, but I got it for a great $190 including shipping from the UK.  Awesome deal.  1 tiny tear on the dust jacket.  This book is out of this world great photos!

Odd isn't it? It's a very sought after book yet the Amazon UK warehouse deal I found, gave me a totally unused copy still boxed and cellophane wrapped internally for £46 ($73)...and I think that included free delivery! That Amazon page is now showing the cheapest used copy at £167 ($256)  and the cheapest new for £650 ($997). Father Christmas obviously thought I'd been a very good boy...

The problem is establishing which edition you are buying. One French magic site was selling a 'first' through Amazon  which transpired to be the revised edition once I'd sent them a guide to the differences. They seemed genuinely shocked and apologetic and removed it from sale...

This one's on the lighthearted side, but it does involve magic (and dentistry...and bullfighting...):
