Strangely enough I have started to see some of the images appearing that I could not see earlier... eyeroll :-\

Hopefully they all reload ok.... If any do not and Jeff can allow editing of earlier posts I would need to change
the image path from postimage.org to postimage.cc

I had wanted to post earlier this year about the release of a new book which is dedicated to the posters of the Waffen-SS.

The author, Andreas Vogt is a friend of mine who I helped out with information as well as providing quite a few original poster
images from my own collection which I am credited for and are in the book.

Die Werbeplakate der Waffen-SS

The text is entirely in German although it is a beautifully put together book (hardcover) with some amazing images and I highly
recommend it to anyone interested in WWII propaganda.  thumbup thumbup thumbup

In all honesty I have no idea, although I agree that it looks very similar to the Tobis logo.

I can ask my NS film collector friend if he knows anything about 'Terbis'.

I always thought that's not a "b," it's an eszett, hence "Toßis."  The eszett was an older German character meant to replace a double "s" after a long vowel, and was used a lot in WWII era Germany, as there was a revival of anything and everything associated with old Germany.  So the style of the character used adds to the confusion for me.  Just a point of interest.

If you're interested in German propaganda films by this studio...  Do you know of their spectacular version of "Titanic" (1943) which placed the blame of the maritime tragedy squarely on greedy British capitalists, and was ultimately so demoralizing that it was banned in its own country before release?  Footage from this film was later used in the acclaimed British version, "A Night to Remember."  (It is on YouTube with subtitles, if interested.)  Anyway, I just saw a very rare copy of the Belgian poster for this film on eBay.  It's the third copy of the poster I've ever seen in my life.  Unfortunately, bidding has ended, but if you want to see the beautiful artwork, here's a link:

In this case it is definitely not an eszett, it is a 'B' and is spelt 'TOBIS'.  :)

Gotcha.  Thanks for confirming, because the font of that "B" always confused me.

Not a problem!

I also do know of the 1943 version of Titanic, although I have not seen the film as yet even though I do own a copy.  ;)

I have had other additions this year that I have not had a chance to post.

This one is a KdF poster.

KdF was the acronym for 'Kraft durch Freude' - 'Strength through Joy' (KdF), which - founded in 1933 as part of the 'German Labor Front' / Deutsche Arbeits Front (DAF) - functioned as the largest tour operator of the Nazi state.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strength_Through_Joy

This poster caught my eye and I just had to have it... Love the artwork!!!
As you can see from the image, I just had it linen backed along with a bunch of
other posters I have previously posted which are also being restored where required.

This photo does not do it justice as it has such vibrant colours.... So I have added the
image used by the seller at the very bottom to show it in a better light.

SIZE = 83.5 x 60cm

This is another KdF poster that I recently acquired.

Some damage to the upper right corner unfortunately which I may have restored at some point.

SIZE = 80 x 60cm

Wow, Christian!

That poster imagery is the epitome of Germany and Nazism during WWII.

Looks like it was rolled and never folded? And what amazing condition, too -  colors, vividness etc.

Do i see an artist's name in the upper right?

Can something be "elegantly spooky"?  If so, your poster is it, Christian!  Thanks for sharing. Okie

Yes this one appealed to me on an architectural level, as that is the industry that I am in.  ;)

Unfortunately the signature I am not familiar with and I do not have the poster in hand at present
as it is still in transit to me from the auction house.

I will confirm the artist signature and will post a closeup of it once I have the poster in hand.

Cheers...

Thank, Christian.

Looking at the name again, it looks like it could be Kroeber maybe?

Yes that is what I thought also, although I thought he would have used umlaut's over the 'o' in that case, so it would be 'ö', instead of 'oe'.

I digress, rather than getting technical with German I will know for sure once the poster arrives....  ;D

Hey Christian - maybe an umlaut wasnt used with the oe combination, since the "oe" could have been pronounced the same as ö (I'm grasping back to my German classes in school with my teacher, Frau Baumeister).

Had the name been spelled "Kröber," (without the letter e), then i could see the use of an umlaut over the letter o.

Maybe Mike (forum member "peckinpah", who's also German) will see this thread and chime in on this German 101 question, too. ;)

Aside from that, there is something printed under the Kroeber name that I couldnt make out. Maybe his first/middle name initials?

Nice poster!

I thought it could be that too, it was either 'oe' or 'ae'.

Cheers....

Just to confirm what we had discussed earlier.

It was 'AE'.

Finally got around to opening the parcel yesterday!

How does the poster look in person, Christian? Are the colors just as bright and the condition like the earlier image you posted, that Im guessing was the seller's pic?

You are correct that the overall picture of the poster was from the auction house as I did not have it in hand at that time.

I have only briefly had it out to take the closeup shot of the artist signature, although it most definitely has amazing colours
and is in great condition other than the small pieces missing near the signature @ top right of the poster.

I will try and get it out over the next few days (weekend) to take an overall shot of it myself, although timing is everything
with vintage paper, especially when you have an 18 month old daughter running around everywhere....  eyeroll ;D

I also received the Adolf Hitler portrait poster in this same lot although I have not posted it on this thread as I currently
have it for sale. I guess I should post all the posters I have regardless of whether I intend to sell them on or not.

I have still not had a chance to take a decent overall photo of the other poster as yet
although I will hopefully have time over the weekend.

However I did find time to conclude a deal for this beauty by Rene Ahrle.

I already had a smaller version of this same poster which I was lucky to find in absolutely
mint condition. This one being its larger brother is in pretty good condition considering,
albeit folded although I will have this one linen backed as soon as I can.

The auction house clearly had better lighting at the time they took their
image as the blue looks a little subdued in the image I took.

Great poster, Christian. It looks amazing.

Plus being able to compare it with the seller's photo, color-wise:
