Alas I fear that we might be 'bumping' into each other in auction very soon! But once I have a couple of good ones under my belt, I shall almost certainly be leaving the field clear for you...

Picked this one up in an online auction in Germany over the weekend.

A nice airbrushed design that I couldn't resist.

I am always struck by how modern, almost cutting edge this poster looks. It exhudes pride. I am reading Albert Speer's books, I am now with    Spandau: The Secret Diaries. It is fascinating to read how the propaganda Ministry became one of the most powerful Ministries for the party.

I assume this is dated as the poster says June 1938. Just weeks after the invation of Austria. Maybe I am reading too much into it but I see this poster as an exceptional example of Nazi propaganda.

Happy for you

Many thanks for your kind words.

Coincidentally, Albert Speer was born in Mannheim which is just down the road from Heidelberg.

After his release from Spandau he lived in Heidelberg, not too far from the castle depicted in
this poster... Heidelberger Schloss!

Wonderful poster.
The lack of eyeballs gives it a surrealistic, almost eerie look.
How big is it?

Really?! That is such a coincidence!!  I was wondering if the castle was real or just an artistic addition. I find Albert Speer a rather fascinating mind to read. Just like your poster. Hope you don't mind me saying that it is my favourite so far.

Well done.

Rosa, would you mind awfully delaying your rush to acquire Nazi poster memorabilia until I've at least secured mine? You know how much we British love queueing...

Just one or two will suffice. The problem is, would one ever have the guts to display any of 'em? My wife is already raising her eyebrows of disbelief to their uttermost height. However I intend to have secured mine by the end of November. The game's afoot!

Due to moving house I only recently got around to unwrapping this one and to
my pleasant surprise I realised it was not a poster after all, but the original
artwork which is on a thicker card material.

I have never seen this work before and who knows if any of the posters that were
made from this original ever survived given that it was a pre-war event.

I had misinterpreted the German description on this lot while at auction and have
since realised that they did describe it as being the original work.

I am even happier now having added this to the collection.

I will hopefully have some new additions to show before Xmas too!

That's an amazing and vibrant piece, Christian, let alone it being the original artwork!!  faint2.gif

Congrats on you getting it for your collection. I see it's signed on the left border.

Is the name Egon P Lampea? Or Egon Plampea?

'Tis beautiful and powerful imagery!!  thumbsup.gif

Many thanks Jeff,

Yes the artist was Egon Plamper.

Here is an extract from the auction description for this piece.

Reichsstudententag Heidelberg , 21st - 25th June 1938.
Design for a poster. Spray technique with gouache on strong cardboard.
In the left margin signed. 88 x 60.5cm.
Egon Plamper ( 1913-1982 ) has emerged after 1945 mainly as a
book illustrator

I have been unable to find any more information about Egon Plamper
other than the above, that he was a book illustrator post-war.

Cheers.... thumbup

Sounds like Herr Plamper continued to do illustration, after the war (and who knows if he was "asked" to do pieces like this for the Reich).

It would also be interesting to find more examples of his work, and to see if his style carried over into that other work? Or if he changed artistic styles very much.

Congrats again, Christian.

Two new and rare additions by the artist Ottomar Anton....!!!

The quintessential poster for the WAFFEN-SS and the most famous!

I have been after one of these for ages and finally can call this one mine.

One of these sold a few years ago at auction for $9500 USD which I guess
is still peanuts in terms of what some posters go for these days.

This is easily the new centrepiece of the collection.

This was the other one I picked up and a very rare find in any condition.
It is a SS foreign volunteer recruitment poster for Bosnian-Croat's.

It has water damage and I believe it has been mounted on card of some
sort, although I will be hoping I can have this one restored to a point
where it is going to look good on display.

An early Christmas present for me... thumbsup.gif

Beautiful and iconic, both, Christian! Congrats again, with these latest poster adds.  thumbsup.gif

I didnt think that dark area on the 2nd one was water damage, when i first looked at the image. The shade of brown going all the way across made me think it was the artwork in some way.

But that stain should wash out pretty nicely (unless the glue that was used to attach it to the board makes it a little more difficult). But here's hoping the adhesive used was water based. Then it could be much smoother sailing.
