BAN HIM

 ;D

Ban Me?  What did i do?  Ari, glad you dropped in. I have something for you but don't know if I should send it to your new mountain place or wait until you get back to your costal place--or what. It's nothing too exciting and it's not even here yet (coming from Switzerland of all places). It's just something I saw that reminded me of something you said in a post.

Cheers!

Hi there. Take 3. I HOPE this attempt at a post doesn't end in disaster like my last two attempts (and the one Jeff tried) did. ARGH!

Anyway, how are you? I hope everyone is well. It's time to post some more crap...er, posters I recently acquired. Except for Jeff, whom I've already addressed, I don't think anyone's been by to say hello..so I don't need to address anything--so let's get on to the posters! Whoo hoo!

JOHN CARPENTER'S VAMPIRES

This is another poster purchased from our own Jeff/erik1925. He sent me a note, wanting to know if I'd like to add this baby to the Shock-A-Rama Poster Show. Sure I would. Why not? I don't think i have it yet. And voila! Through the magic of Paypal and the US Mail, it was done! Thank you, Jeff! I haven't seen this flick, but I am getting a little tired of John Carpenter thinking his name needs to be included in the title of all of his films. I mean, hello? He's made some pretty stink-o-rama turds. I mean really... Just because he made "Halloween" 35+ years ago... GET OVER IT already.

FIRST BLOOD

I am not a fan of the Rambo films...or of Sylvester Stallone for that matter. I have just noticed the one sheet for this film is kind of pricey. (I guess that, just because there are no Rambo films on my DVD shelf doesn't mean it isn't a popular series. While I've seen the three Rambo films (is there a 4th?), I really don't remember much about them (especially the third one--which I saw at a drive in back in the day).

What I have noticed is that the title of the series changed mid-stream. (From "First Blood, to "Rambo: First Blood Part 2", to just "Rambo 3") But, like I said, I have noticed the one sheet can be pricey...even the one sheet for Part 2 can fetch some bucks. Jeepers! I saw the one sheets for 1 & 2 (both in really great shape) together at a decent price (lower than I usually see the one sheets for 1 and/or 2 sometimes) just languishing. No one else was interested, so i scooped them up. I'll sell them down the road a bit--hopefully make a profit.

RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART 2

About seven or eight years ago, when I was still a writer in the Custom Publications department of the newspaper, I decided to give everyone in my department a framed movie poster for Christmas. That may sound startling, but this was back when posters were still relatively cheap. The frames were the most expensive part of the gift back then.

I still remember what posters I gave everyone, and all were perfect for the individual. I had two bosses. To Carey who liked Rick Springfield, I gave "Hard To Hold" (boring poster). To Monica, I gave her "Grease 2". Both of those posters I got for about $1 each. Seriously! And they were in great condition. Josh was a big fan of the movie "The Prestige"--so he got that (also boring) poster (which I had gotten for FREE, by the way). Kristen got one of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" posters. Sara got the most recent (1998?) re-release one sheets for "Gone With The Wind".

Becki was a special case. She and I had started together on the same day. It was great that way because we could cling to each other through training and while we learned the ropes. She was a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone. I couldn't afford "First Blood" or "Rocky"--so i ended up getting her "Rambo: First Blood Part 2". (I also got her a 2nd poster--the double feature combo poster for "Rocky" and "Rocky 2"--which I gave to her later). I'm sure all of the posters/frames i gave out have long since ended up in the garbage or a garage sale. I TRIED to convert my co-workers into poster fans, but...it didn't work.

Becki has since moved to Washington DC, gotten married and is now a mom. I'm sure her posters got lost in the shuffle for sure. Her posters I spent the most on...and the frames were pricey too (about $25 each). Where are they now. I wish I had them all back.

End of Part 1

Part 2 (hopefully)

ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (Thai):

The next three posters other members of the APF forum have copies of and have posted them (acquisitions threads?). These posters really struck my fancy and I decided I really, REALLY needed to get copies of them for myself. This ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK poster is NOT my poster. I'm just using it as an example--but it's just the same. Zowie! i am just ga-ga over the Thai posters. They are just stunning. They really punch it up with color and artwork. Bravo!

TINRORERA (German):

Yowza! This German TINTORERA poster is awesome. It's scary and better than the movie itself! I had to have it. Love my JAWS ripoffs!

X FROM OUTER SPACE (German):

OOOoooo this poster really speaks to me. Ha! I've never seen the film, but have seen stills from it and I recognize the creature on the poster from the stills. Great poster. I just wonder how the zany Germans worked Frankenstein into it (as it is in the German title). Anyone read German? Soooo groovy cool.

BURIAL GROUND:

I am sure I already have this poster, but who knows if I'll ever unearth it again. But here is the US poster for yet another gonzo zombie poster that tried to capitalize on the success of "DAWN OF THE DEAD". I love this cheezy stupid crap. The most disturbing thing about this gut muncher is this weird kid who has a very strange mother fixation. Oh my stars! (Spoiler!!) Later in the film he becomes a zombie and bites his mother's breasts off! No kidding!

Here's the trailer:

Here's a weird disturbing scene between the son and the mom (NOT that scene though):

Heck, here's the whole dang movie...

I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE (1956 re-release style A):

Speaking of zombies, here is a classic. Not in the Romero zombie sense, but in the Val Lewton produced sense. No gut munching here, just great atmosphere. I really, really want an original one sheet from the first release. it's just gorgeous. The re-release style B poster uses the same artwork, but the colors used are more muted than the original. I'll probably never have either--so this will have to suffice. And I am thrilled to have it. Yippie.

End of Part 2

Part 3 (last part)

GHOST IN THE INVISIBLE BIKINI:

I already had a copy of this, but needed a better copy. Most people point to "HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI" as the end of the "Beach Party" movie series, because it is the last one to feature Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. But "GHOST IN THE INVISIBLE BIKINI" is the true conclusion to the series. Frankie and Annette may be gone, but the rest of the Beach party gang is here--along with Nancy Sinatra, Basil Rathbone and Boris Karloff! Geronimo!

Here's a look (the trailer):

And the whole way out groovy ghoulie thing:

THE BOOGIE MAN WILL GET YOU:

Speaking of Karloff, my last poster of the day is for a movie I had never heard of before,  1942's "THE BOOGIE MAN WILL GET YOU." I got this on the last day of the emovie Halloween auction. It's a little more beat up then i'd normally go for--only in "good to very good" condition. But it had a couple of things going for it. It features both Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre. I only have a few later Karloff posters and nothing with Lorre. I also noticed this blurb on the auction page: Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare one-sheet which we have never auctioned before!  Zowie! That made me wonder. If it really is all that rare, I might as well try for it. I bid a high (for me--but quasi-modest for a "rare" poster) amount and was shocked that I got it. Huh? Really? I'm thrilled, of course. If there was ever a poster in my collection I would even consider linen backing, it's this one (and I HATE linenbacking). It looks like it might be okay as is in a frame, but I hate the tape discoloration at the top and bottom folds in the margins. Grrr. Still, while it may not be a Universal monster poster--it is a Karloff and a Lorre and more than 70 years old. I'll take it.

Okay kiddies, that's about all of the time we have for the Shock-A-Rama Poster Show tonight. No one soiled themselves, I trust? Now hurry on in and brush your teeth and get ready for bed. Your moms and dads will be in to tuck you in soon. By the way, I hope you've been feeding the monster in your closest. What do you feed a monster, you ask? I find that bratty brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, works best. Nighty night and have groovy dreams!

Cheers!

OK THIS TIME FOR REAL

BAN HIM

but really, jealous of your Lewton, I am a casual collector of Lewton, casual because theytend to be too expensive for me. I have a reissue insert for I WALKED... and have at least one thing from NEARLY all of his films.

Great stuff as always, love your taste.

ok, no banning needed, but maybe a time out?

Hey, glad it finally worked! happy1

The most disturbing thing about this gut muncher is this weird kid who has a very strange mother fixation. Oh my stars!
Haha I know, right? It was totally weird! The rest of the movie was borderline boring and then that kid would come in with his creepy antics, and I  would break into hysterics. I like how sudden it comes about too, I mean he's weird from the beginning but then out of nowhere it escalates to a whole nother(or should I say mother) level :P

All in all nice haul as usual!

What a great lineup of titles.
I really like I Walked with a Zombie and The Boogie Man Will Get You.
Been meaning to replace my long-lost First Blood one sheet... that Drew Struzan artwork is simply iconic.
Ghost in the Invisible Bikini brings back fond memories.
Tintorera and Escape From NY kick serious ass.
Heck, they're all dynOmite!

Knowing you are on a Thai kick recently, I think we've talked about the Thai versions of all the RAMBO series and how there are multiple versions for each installment.  This one is based on the design you have shown and is printed as the largest 1 sheet size before they would go to 2 sheets.  This one is also pricey but looks great.

Hi there. Gather around boils and ghouls, it's time once again for the Shock-A-Rama Poster Show. Does everyone have their Freak-O-Vision glasses on? Groovy!  Before we get started, i need to do some shout outs.

Hey Jeff, I just wanted to THANK YOU again for your attempt at helping me with my post yesterday. I am having a crappy day today (literally--details to follow if you really want to know) and hope things go smoothly this time. Fingers crossed!

Ari, don't be jealous. It was only produced (not directed) by Lewton...and, unless i ever score the original release poster, there's really nothing to get jealous of (Now that original release poster--zowie! That's awesome!)

Mister e! I'm so glad you know the movie "BURIAL GROUND", not that it's a great movie (it's not), but because someone else gets the frame of reference.  Glad you like the posters. Anxious to see more of your stuff myself. Cheers!

Stew!  Thanks for saying hello. I know what you mean about that Thai ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. Kind of throws everything off. Oh well, someone has to have it. Hee hee!  Thanks for visiting.

Rosa and Steve--So glad you both dig the "X FROM OUTER SPACE" poster. You understand how i felt when i saw the other one someone posted on the new acquisitions thread a while back. I loved it. It really worked for me and I had to get one myself. Thumbs way up on that one.

Hey Ted, were you channeling Jimmy Walker (who is not even dead yet) when you gave your overall review of my new posters ("DynOmite")? Ha!  Glad you liked them. Thanks for looking.

Mike, o those amazing Thais. Even something like the first RAMBO movie is better as a Thai poster than the US version. And you say there are several styles? For each movie? Wow! You need to post your collection in ONE [place so we can see it all. Amazing. Thanks!

Okay--I think i covered everyone. Now let's get this poster party started. (Fingers crossed everything works this time.)::

COLOSSUS: THE FORBIDDEN PROJECT (German):  I've never seen this movie. I bought the poster strictly based on the poster. It was colorful and I thought it really popped.

THE GHOST (Belgian): Although I have a one sheet for this (scroll way, way back), I thought this was a fun and colorful addition. Now, by the light of day, it's not that exciting. Oh well.

CANNIBAL MAN: I just watched this over Halloween weekend. It's not really a cannibal movie, but an interesting study into one man's decent into his own personal hell. I decided I liked the movie well enough to get the poster. I couldn't find one. There are Spanish ones out there with the original title (Week of the Murderer--or something like that). I spied a poster in English with yet another alternate title (Something like The Apartment on the 13th Floor)--but it's really dull and really expensive. Emovie just had one--a Belgian with gruesome artwork of a guy with a meat cleaver in his face and the title "Cannibal man" below it--but it went crazy high and I dropped out. Then this little gem fell into my lap. It has the artwork from the original Spanish release and the title I desired. Sold!

JAWS 3D (Japanese chirashi):  I got one of these Japanese mini-posters for JAWS 3D not long ago. But when i came across this one, I realized it was completely different than the one I had already purchased. So i got this one as well.

DEEP ADVENTURE: I had never heard of this film when I stumbled on the poster. Although it's kind of dark (is that the poster or the photo?), I was digging on the shark and all of the underwater activity. Why not?

LADY IN CEMENT:  Eh.. I've seen this around a few times, but finally decided to pick one up. I've heard the movie is not that good, but you've got Frank Sinatra and Raquel Welch (and Hoss from "Bonanza"? Ha!). Go for it.

INVASION OF THE ASTRO MONSTER (Thai): I've also seen this around as well, but only picked it up when i found one cheap enough. Is INVASION OF THE ASTRO MONSTER the same thing as GODZILLA VS MONSTER ZERO? Always happy to get a new Thai poster. This one is fun.

OMEN 4: THE AWAKENING:  I know. I know. This 4th film in the OMEN series is just crap. Fortunately for us in the US, it was a TV movie--so we didn't have to shell out a dime to see it. The rest of the world was not that lucky and they had to see it in theaters. I decided to pick this standard one sheet size poster up so i could have one sheets for each of the films,,,even though the poster leaves a lot to be desired as well.

ZOMBIE LAKE (Belgian): This is actually the very first time I've encountered any poster art work for the admittedly awful "ZOMBIE LAKE". But i dig my zombie flicks, so why not? EEEK!

FANTASM: Steve, I told you I had something you'd like in this installment. This poster is one of those cases where you are bidding on something else you really want--and to pad out the shipping costs, you bid on a few other things as well. Of course i LOST out on the thing I really wanted--but still ended up with this. I've been intrigued by this title for a long while. At first I thought it was a softcore version of the horror movie "PHANTASM". But "PHANTASM" was 1979, and this hails from 1976. Hmm. I think this is an Australian movie (?) with American porn stars (?) but completely softcore. The poster is, i think, Australian too--size is a little smaller than a one sheet--but bigger than a daybill. This poster would never see the light of day in a regular theater in 1976 over here. Yowza.

And that is all for today. My bad luck from last night continues on into today. (I need to go and buy a plunger. Need i say more?)

Have a better day than me.

re LEWTON, yeah I know, I love the film, and all the Lewton produced movies (he only Directed one short and Ive not seen it)
First release on the sought after titles are hard to afford for some of us.
Funny I nearly bought a Belgian for THE GHOST just this week . ha

Zombie Lake, I LOVE the film myself, best Nazi Zombies after SHOCK WAVES.
I like Jean Rollin, his films have a certain quality.

FANTASM is indeed an aussie film and aussie poster, a lot of the exploitation films got odd releases here and the advertising had budget constraints, so often the posters were odd also, size, print quality etc were affected. Its a very interesting film, see it if you can, hard to describe it really, but unlike anything else.

Yeah COMES AGAIN.
good stuff.

I DO agree re ROLLIN, but they all have "something"
I kinda prefer the slow romantic soft focus vampire ones I guess. At least they are visually interesting.
