Hi guys...thanks for stopping by for a visit. I'm always happy to see you.

Neo:
Zowie! Aren't you full of information. Yes, I remember how limited the showings were. I was so upset. I wanted to see it so bad--but was never able to. And yes, I'm glad I got my one sheet (apparently it's formerly Crazy Vick's one sheet. Thanks again, Vick!) because I realize how hard to find they are. Again, I am shocked I actually got this one.

Yes, I met Richard Kiel. That photo was taken in his home office in fall 2010, I believe. I've spent the last few hours searching for a digital version of the article (one exists--I have it somewhere, but I think it's in my external hard drive that crashed, because I can not seem to find it any where else. I can always re-scan it if I come across the actual magazine again. ARGH!). I also went looking for the audio file from the interview. The only audio file I could find (on my old digital recorder) was a really awful phone interview with Sid Haig (last celeb interview I did). There may be another in my files--but I can NOT find it (yet). I'll keep looking though... But he was nice. He signed two photos for me (one, as Jaws, strangling James Bond. The other is as EEGAH!) and also two books he had written, his autobiography (Making it BIG in Hollywood...or something like that, and his historical biographical novel on the life of Casius Clay which was just AWFUL!).

It's a cool flick, although not really on the same level as Piranha 3D which is epic.  It was cool to see on the big screen, especially in 3D.  I drove about an hour to the only theater near here that was screening it.

Sounds like a great experience meeting Mr. Kiel.  Good luck finding the interviews.  If you ever find them and want to post them here or somewhere, that would be cool.

Jeff: Thanks for stopping by and for the kind words. I'm guessing you are back from your trip? I hope you had a swell time.

Neo: Crazy Vick sold it to me indirectly through  emovieposter. I'm still thrilled though. And regarding the Richard Kiel article, I just called my replacement at the newspaper  and had her find a copy of the magazine  for me. She did and is sending it. Once it arrives, I will scan it and post it here and also send it to you in a PM in case you miss seeing it posted here. The actual recorded conversation  (interview), if I still have a copy and is on that crashed hard drive, will have to wait until I can get the data extracted. I don't even know if I kept the interview as I did so many interviews and just erased them as I went (which was really DUMB of me). I did find another short and crappy phone interview with Conrad Brooks (actor in Ed Wood movies). Oh man. He was a piece of work. Ha. I had to buy something from him before he would let me interview him, then called several times afterwards trying to get me to buy other stuff. So funny. Anyway., the Kiel article (from 2009 not 2010) will be coming soon.
Cheers!

Uh oh... I did a bad, BAD thing. Hot on the heels of the big purchase I couldn't afford earlier this week, I bought another poster. ARGH!  I couldn't help myself. It was one of the few H.G. Lewis vintage horror posters I needed (bringing my "need" list down to just TWO titles of his) and, although it was pricey (for me), I didn't want to chance not seeing another for 10 years or so since I rarely see them. So I bid. I'll spare you the story of how I paid for it--but I will say I had NO money in the bank and NO room on the credit cards. EEEK! I do get paid tomorrow--so it was just an "advance". But I couldn't let this one slip away...

The poster is for H.G. Lewis'...

THE GRUESOME TWOSOME:

Although NOT the best poster...and NOT the best of Lewis' handful of horror flicks from the 60s/early 70s, this is one of the first of his that I actually saw (on VHS). Not as gory as BLOOD FEAST or any of his other flicks by far, GRUESOME TWOSOME tries hard in its tale of a little old lady and her crazy son who have a wig shop that sells wigs with real human hair. Guess where they get it from? Predating "Maniac" by about 10 years, the scalping effects are very primitive and cheesy...but effective enough for this primitive and cheesy movie. It also contains two talking styrofoam wig heads at the beginning and end of the film. Weird. Wonderful. And now the poster is MINE!

Also a bit of mystery today. A few years back when I went back to school to become a nurse, I moved everything out of my 4-bedroom house into a tiny, cramped mother-in-law apartment behind the garage of a house my mother owns and rents out to a family. It's awful. All of my stuff is in here piled up all around me. I have little paths that lead here and there--like a hoarders house, but if/when I ever get back into my house, everything will have a place again.

Anyway, the mysterious part was that I was rearranging some of my more than 200 framed posters (BIG mistake on my part, trying to frame all of my posters---do you know how much room that takes? UGH!), and I was looking at a few as I was moving them. "Dawn of the Dead", "Suspiria", "Night of the Living Dead", blank... Huh? BLANK?  Yes, there was a frame with NO poster in it. I can NOT for the life of me think of any reason there would be a blank, empty frame. Once a poster was framed, it stayed framed. I sold two posters that had been framed (stupid of me---they were the original "LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT" and "GIGANTIS THE FIRE MONSTER", aka "GODZILLA 2". I'll never get replacements for them now that things are sooo pricey), and popped new things in those frames right away. I haven't sold a poster in ages nor do I just let frames sit empty. So where did it go--and what poster was it? BIZARRE! I just can't imagine why it's empty and what was in it. Hmm.

But I think I'll fill it with my recently purchased "KING KONG" '56 purchase. I've wanted that poster for sooooo long.

Anyway, thanks for stopping in.

See you next time.

I hate the feeling of maybe lost something, and I am very unorganised, or rather too much stuff, too little space also.
If you try and NOT think about it, the solution will hit you I am sure.
good work on another HGL. Do you have the book by Chris Curry?

Hi guys. Thanks for stopping by.

ARI: I HATE my life right now. I know where NOTHING is and it's just like living in a storage shed (one of my many nicknames for this place). Thanks for the tip on the book by Chris Curry. I immediately looked it up on Amazon. $62!!  GEEZ!  Luckily, someone had a "used--like new" copy up for only $9. Instantly SOLD! (Not that I need anything else in this place, but...). And the mystery of the frame continues. Curiously I discovered the backing board is taped to the back of the frame---so it can't easily be opened. Why would I do that when the frame is empty? WEIRD.

TED/BRUDE:  Yes, more than 200 framed posters. You forget, I've been buying posters for YEARS and YEARS.My first were purchased when I was in elementary school and I'm 50 now. I really started buying regularly in the mid-90s when I finally had a more or less stable salary (I was a teacher, then a journalist, and now a nurse with tons of student loan and credit card debt). I fully disclosed I had more than 200 framed posters twice--in the introductory thing I posted when I first got on and in my very first entry for this thread. I posted my crappy (very LOW definition) video I made back in 2008 showing them. The video, once again, is here: ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDCf3DYtxOU&feature=youtu.be  ).  I just re-watched it myself. In it you will see the SUSPIRIA and DAWN OF THE DEAD posters, but this was before I had the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD posters (I got the original in 2009). You'll also see the gone (and still kicking myself over) LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and GIGANTIS THE FIRE MONSTER posters. Most aren't all that good/collectible/sought after--but they appeal to me. Between that video (2008) and now, there's 6 years of poster buying (I must STOP!!!)---and again, the video only shows my framed posters at that time. NOT the ones in boxes and rolls.

It's only been the last 3 or 4 years or so that posters have gotten crazy high. I started keeping print outs of the auction pages so I knew how much I spent on them. I still do that but now I just keep digital copies. I sold the LAST HOUSE and GIGANTIS posters for $10 or so each around 2009-ish on eBay. ARGH! I'll NEVER be able to get them back unless I want to spend another small fortune.

You don't have a FRANKENSTEIN 6-sheet? Really? I have 3. NOT!!!  I have NO Frankenstein (even re-release stuff) unfortunately. I suck.

Yes...I watched all of the 7 day challenge...lol.  Ed Wood has nothing on you..ha.  But seriously, I too keep most of my posters framed.  Where do you get your frames?  I have used Sue (here on the threads) and Spotlight frames...good folks.  I tried a wholesale frame company (on the web) and did not like the quality.
 Nice posters man!

Hi everyone. Thanks for popping over and saying hi.

ROSA: It sounds like you understand. I haven't got any of my posters up now as I'm living in my temporary shack-o-rama!  I miss SEEING them everywhere.  Waaaagh!

Ba527401: Hi there. I don't think we've met before, but welcome to the poster party. Oh dear... I am so sorry you endured the 7 day video challenge (you watched ALL of them? Really? WHY!?!). That was way back in 2008, YouTube was new to me and seemed fun at the time. I've since learned my lesson and STOPPED. Ha! But, aside from that one video, none of them are really about my posters, poster collecting, etc. My poster framing madness happened quite a few years back. (starting in 2005 or so). I really have not framed anything since because I don't have room for any more frames. I do want to get some lighted frames down the road (especially for the lenticular posters), but not until I'm in a house again. I wasn't on the website yet, so didn't know of Sue. I just bought most of them through something called Wholesale Poster Frames (probably the one you mentioned you didn't like)---not the best, but I bought so many I needed the least expensive I could find. I also got a lot of them from an art supply store. Those with the thicker frames (in the video) are from the art store and I used those to hold my favorites/most expensive posters at the time. Thanks for stopping by though--again sorry you watched the other videos (o' the horror!).

Jeff/erik1925:  There was a discount, but not much. I've checked prices a few times over the years---and they've really gone up.

MAGG, can I ask what kind of backing board is in all of your frames?

Is it an acid free type of board or foam core, hopefully? (or at least what is coming in contact with the back of each poster).

Foam core, I believe. Zowie! Thanks for reminding me. When I am able I really need to get on the acid-free bandwagon and save my stuff from deteriorating. Geez!

Hopefully the foam core provided in each frame was the acid free kind. Then you would be A-OK.  ;)

Jeff:  I don't think the foam core I got is acid free. I just went to the website of the merchant I bought the bulk of the frames from, added one of their bulk packs to my cart and looked at the contents. All come with regular (not acid-free) foam core backing. UGH!  I have a LOT of replacing to do as soon as possible. ARGH!!!

Not long ago (earlier this week?) I had "won" the poster for "EEGAH" and posted a photo of myself with the star of "EEGAH", Richard Kiel, best known for playing the villainous JAWS character in the James Bond thrillers THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and MOONRAKER. I met him for an interview I did on him back in 2009. Neo asked for the recorded interview or a copy of the printed final version. I couldn't find either, so I asked the newspaper to send me a copy of the magazine. I got it today and scanned the article. Oh my. I cringe when I see it now. I haven't thought about this article in years, but when I see it today--ugh!  This was right about the time the newspaper industry started to tank. The powers that be decided to make things more appealing to readers by revamping the stories to be more reader friendly and local. The formatting "Why he's famous"/"Valley connection" are all a part of that. I especially cringed when I was reminded of the "Fast Facts" aspect at the beginning of the article. (Which eventually morphed into "Fun Facts") Blah! All NOT my idea. But that is why a lot of my celebrity interviews eventually faded away...as they were trying to be more local. I only got to interview celebs after that if I was doing a travel story that somehow incorporated them (like an article on visiting Hollywood at Halloween mentioned a celebrity show where people can meet their favorite stars. There is one every October, so I had a celebrity in that. I also had to do some awful articles on some of the National Parks. I sort of know Susan Olsen who was Cindy on the Brady Bunch. I used her when writing about Pearl Harbor and the Grand Canyon! I had been to neither place at that time and she had--on the show decades earlier! Ha! I got away with it too. But you should have seen my editors faces. "Cindy Brady? REALLY?" They'd just look at me and shake their heads. Ha!

Anyway--as crappy as it is (and the first scan is really hard to read--sorry!), here is the Richard Kiel article as well as the other photo I had taken with him that day.

But the way it's edited/formatted/stuffed into only three pages, there's very little "interview" left to it. I think there are what? 4 or 5 sentences quoted? LAME...

You're being hard on yourself.
It is well done.
I've worked with many editors on interview formatting and my personal preference is how you handled it.
You've worked his quotes into your content quite nicely.
It is a damn fine read.

Interview famous folks, writing about (and visiting?) national parks, etc.  That's awesome.

As Ted said, it's a good, thorough, fairly brief summary of Mr. Kiel's work history.  It's unfortunate that you weren't able to do things how you wanted to, but the opportunity you had is darn cool.  It's a well done piece.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi guys, Thanks for reading and saying nice things.

The article is what it is. When you interview someone, you never know what you are going to get. And, until the article is written, you really never know what you are going to turn out. The editing process is another aspect that is completely OUT of your control..."FAST FACTS" (groan) and all.

TED/BRUDE: You've "worked with editors"???  What do you do? Hmm.

Neo: Are you kidding? Actually getting to TRAVEL to places I write about for my travel stories?? Ha! ha! ha! Ha! HA! Nope--never happened. (Well, unless I had happened to go there on my own and then turned it into an article that is). I won an award for a travel article about an old fashioned train that had been restored and was running passengers. I was told my article really gave the reader the feeling of what the trip must be like. I never even saw the dang train. I did all sorts of travel articles. I was the travel (and celebrity) guy for my department. Most of it was all based on phone or email interviews. But I really liked writing. It didn't pay anything but it was creative. Nursing pays better, but--although it's a nurturing and noble career-- it's not as satisfying to my creative side. Oh well.

Thanks for coming by.
