Another great haul, Monster.
So sad to hear about your credit card blues, but that goes with the territory.  wynk

They are all cool, but this one really caught my eye.

Dragonfly Squadron looks fantastic. And it has a funny tagline (next to the couple). I always liked the Vamp too. It looks so much better in person. And yes....We all go for a shopping madness once in a while. But hey...Enjoy them!

Hi there. Golly, thanks everyone for visiting while I was working the last few days. I appreciate your company and am always happy to see you.

Jeff/erik1925: It's always nice when something I buy gets a nod of approval from you. As a fellow Californian and as one of the administrators who has, I'm sure, way, Way, W-A-Y nicer stuff than I do, it's just nice to hear "I did good" (at least on some of the stuff I drag home...).

Steve/50s...  Hey!  I also really dig the VIKING WOMEN AND THE SEA SERPENT. Never seen the flick but that poster is amazing (in my book) and yes, most of the scans posted were photos of/scans of the actual posters and they are in great condition. YIPPIE!  Always a pleasure to see you, Steve.

Monocle/Nick: Henry Silva?  You must have gone way back to the first page with the "CRY OF A PROSTITUTE" poster to be reminded of him. Ha!  And... Eeek!  Dangerously sparkly glitter?!??!! O' the HORROR of that. Who knew that an actor in a Milligan movie would go on to be famous--even if in another branch of the entertainment world. Fascinating and that thank you for that tidbit.

Crazy Vick... OH MY STARS!!!! Thank you for posting that clip. It was actually WORSE than I imagined it to be. And you LIKED it?  Huh? Justin Beiber will be CRUSHED. Anyway, I know for sure now that I will never, EVER even attempt to watch that movie. P.U. What a turd. The poster is enough for me...

Brude/Ted...so delighted you liked "The Ghost"--one of those groovy euro-horrors from the 60s. It's more of a rarity though. (I think it's a sequel to "The Horrible Dr. Hitchcock" maybe?) Since it's not as well known, purchasing it was kind of questionable...but I did think the poster was cooly-O anyway. Thanks for agreeing. What's the difference between an "administrator" and a "global administrator"? "Global administrator" sounds so ominous in a way... Hmm.

Mirosae/Rosa:  I am pleased you also like "Dragonfly Squadron". Thanks!  I agree that VAMP looks better in real life. As for "shopping madness"---well,I went a tad mad tonight, but I could NOT help it. Several bucket list items were available tonight and, with the exception of a few I had to let go, I got them---spending big, BIG bucks in the process. YIKES! None of the images below are of the actual posters for various reasons. Lenticulars are notoriously hard to photograph, so the one lenticular poster image I grabbed from the internet. The others were all "won" this evening on emovieposter.com. Instead of running images with "emovieposter.com" splashed across them, I just found alternates online. Sorry--but would you have rather had it the other way?

Here's a peek at what bankrupted me tonight:

"Monster House" lenticular. This is cool. I saw one hanging in a theater once and had to have it. This lenticular moves in that it shows the boy standing in front of a house. As you move around the poster, the house morphs into a monster house. This image is about mid-transformation. Zowie! How neat-o!

"This Is Cinerama". This is an early 70s re-release, but I've never seen the original poster available and I'm a sucker for a gimmick. Zowie! How cool it must have been to see something in Cinerama. Love this audience on a rollercoaster image--too wild!

Here's another kiddie matinee poster for my collection, K Gordon Murray's imported/dubbed "Rumplestiltskin"!

And here is "Pinocchio in Outer Space"!!!  NOT a kiddie matinee, but when I came across this poster years ago (never able to get it--drat!), it's vibrant color and energy won me over. Had to have it! And it (proudly and prominently) features the voice Arnold Stang! Ha!

The next two are super big bucket list items---oh my stars!  The first is the very first feature-length 3D movie that started the 3D craze of the 1950s....  "Bwana Devil"!!  A lion in your lap---a lover in your arms!  WOW! As a hoarder...er, lover of gimmick posters, this is a HUGE coup for me.

Finally, the biggest (i.e. most expensive and rarest?) bucket list find of recent times is "White Slaves of Chinatown"---the first in the infamous "Olga" series (it was followed by "Olga's House of Shame"--what a great title. Ha!, "Olga's Girls", "Madame Olga's Massage Parlor"--which is sadly considered a "lost film" as no prints are known to exist, and "Olga's Dance Hall Girls"--which is so awful and features an impostor "Olga", but is somehow still my favorite). The Olga films are cheap mid-60s nudie roughies. They are laughably bad/cheap. There is no synchronized sound--or very little. The story is mostly told with a narrator and classical music. In the b&w flicks, girls are abducted and tortured and forced into prostitution, drugs, etc. Sleazy but silly by today's standards. All very hokey. This was the very first time emovieposter.com featured this poster for auction (so said a little blurb on the bottom of the listing). Yowza. It's a crappy poster really, but I am sooooo thrilled.

Oh man!  I have a problem with my "WHITE SLAVES OF CHINATOWN" poster. I deleted it last night from my "bucket list" and went to bed. This morning I received this email:

Shawn,

This is Bruce. After the auction for WHITE SLAVES OF CHINATOWN closed, we discovered that the poster had part of the bottom border trimmed off (approximately 1 1/4"). The poster measures 27" x 39 3/4".

It was clearly visible in the image of the poster, but was not mentioned in the condition description.

If you want to cancel the poster, that is fine. If you do, we will offer it to the underbidder (we reviewed the bidding, and we imagine there is a good chance he will want it).

So please let us know ASAP if you want to keep it or if we should offer it to the underbidder.

I very much apologize for this error. I have talked to the people involved, and we will make a greater effort to not miss defects like this.

Please reply soon.

Thanks,
Bruce

Golly. I'm crushed. It's a very rare poster and one I really had been searching for. It was only in Good to Very Good condition due to staple holes and clear tape being applied to the back where the holes were--and now has the trimmed bottom. The poster was more than $400 (a fortune to me). The poster is more than 50 years old and this was the first time this particular site had offered it. That's how rare it is.

I now need to decide if I want to keep the trimmed poster or release it for a refund. I'm NOT into linen so linen backing and repair are not really an option. Hmm. I need to decide QUICKLY.

What would you do?

Thanks!

Here are my replies:

Hi Bruce.

Oh NOooooo. I am just heart sick that it's trimmed. I read about the tape on the back but there was no mention, as you said, about it not being the whole poster. I am just soooo crushed. I have wanted this poster for years and years--and now I don't know what to do. Golly, while $409 is a small fortune to me, I wasn't going to lose this poster. I had stopped bidding on two other posters ("Have Rocket Will Travel" and "Joys of Jezebel"--which I also dearly wanted) because I suspected that "White Slaves" (which was only about $100 then) might get expensive. (It did!). I actually deleted it off of my "bucket list" of posters last night before going to bed. Waaagh! I just don't know what to say.

I'm NOT a linenbacking fan at all. I wouldn't even know how to go about getting it done, who is reputable and who isn't, or the cost. I just don't know what to do or say. Spend $409 for a trimmed poster or let my years-long hunt go on?

I am sure Mr. Runner up will want it. I'm not sure if I want to let it go--but it's not a whole poster. Hmm. What would YOU do? You are the expert... (Ha!) Could you give me a discount at all?

Golly. Can I have a few hours to think about it and get back to you by the end of the day? Dang. I just don't know what to do.

Thank you.

***

And then this second note:

Okay... I've thought about it, looked at the poster again (I noticed you added the fact that it was trimmed to the description now), and looked at the bidding history. While I am still just sick about it being trimmed, I thought I would suggest this. I will pass on the poster to Mr. Runner Up (La713294) bidder. If he takes it for his last bid of $399, so be it. If he passes for $399, that would make me 2nd runner up (over Th455102, whose last top bid was $164) at $169. I'll take it then.

I'm probably kissing this poster goodbye.

Man. What a horrendous bummer.

Thanks!

****

I'm sure Mr. Runner Up (LA713294) will take it. Bye bye poster... Oh well. It was mine for a few hours at least...

Thanks for the help and the words of wisdom.*

Waaagh...it's gone.

Here's the note from Bruce:

Shawn,

We will offer it to the underbidder. If he doesn't want it, we will re-auction it, mentioning the trimmed bottom border.

We will let you know what happens. We will get the poster taken out of your order and we will refund you the portion you paid for it.

Again, I apologize for this mistake.

Thanks,
Bruce

That is a sad story.
But I think the bright side is that every collector in this hobby just saw the price this poster fetched.
That might just be enough to bring a few more out into the light.
Keep the faith, Go-Go Monster.
There is another one out there with your name on it.

Yes. As I explained, I used a picture from the internet since it is hard to get a good photo of a lenticular. This was just to use as an example. But you clearly know your stuff.

Thanks for the visit.

Ha ha ha! That IS funny. At least I was honest as to where I found the photo (off of the internet, randomly). Who knew it was yours? Ha! But you have an amazing collection of lenticulars. Oh my STARS! I have several myself--but you...WOW!

My lenticulars:

Texas Chainsaw 3D
Alice In Wonderland
Lost World: Jurassic Park 2
Final Destination
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Shark Boy and Lava Girl
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Max Payne
Day After Tomorrow
Monster House
Spy Kids 3D
Ice Age Continental Drift
Shadowbuilder
Chronicles of Narnia

Monster House was, of course, the most recent acquisition. I also have a badly damaged re-release of "A Nightmare Before Christmas" and another badly damaged (spent $200 on it and it arrived destroyed...no compensation from the seller (although there was supposed to have been insurance on it--he never did anything to help me collect it)...of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. I don't suppose there's any hope for those?

I bow down before ye, o' master of all things lenticular.

Hello.  I've got more to post...some of it groovy, other stuff just okay (oops! I was only supposed to be buying bucket list stuff from here on out).  I also need your help/opinion on an item I got within the last week as well. (More on that at the bottom of this entry.)

First, it's yet another one of my kiddie matinee posters from the 60's/early 70's. This one is another Childhood Productions poster for "Aladdin and his Magic Lamp". Again, this is presented in Storybook Color...and (zowie!) Storybookscope!!!  Ooooo. It was also "Never before shown anywhere" ...except maybe in the Soviet Union where this film was originally made? Ha! I have not many of these old kiddie matinee movies--except for the few I actually was dragged to as a child--and certainly have seen none as an adult. But it's on imdb (with it's original Russian credits), so I may have to give it a watch. I'm sure the poster is better than the flick. That usually seems to be the case.

Next is a foreign poster for the "Exorcist" ripoff "Beyond the Door"!  This poster is in English, but is definitely NOT the U.S. one sheet. Instead of "directed by" it says "Direct by", so clearly whoever created this didn't have complete command of the English language--but very close. I actually like this movie. REALLY!  I think that may be because A) it stars Juliet Mills, who so charmed me as a child in "Nanny and the Professor" and B) during the post-"Exorcist" hoopla, I remembered all of the hoopla that followed THIS movie, too. I didn't get to see "The Exorcist" until years later (1981 I think...on a double bill with "The Shining", not counting the glimpses of it at a drive in when it played on the screen behind us)...but I DID catch "Beyond the Door" on late night TV not so long after it played in theaters...so this was where I lost my possession movie virginity (oh my!).  Stunning artwork on this--although it really does not go with the movie that well. Ha!

"The Bloody Pit of Horror" with "Terror-Creatures from Beyond the Grave" is next. I love my double feature posters--yahoo--and I've longed for a "Bloody Pit of Horror" poster (there are two versions--this one and one when it was on a double bill with "Body Snatcher From Hell". But this one features the BPOH much more than the other one does). It's such a silly, over the top flick. Mickey Hargitay is in high camp overdrive...without even meaning to be.

George Romero's "Knightriders" is not the greatest flick ever, but I've wanted to get the poster of it for a long while...just NOT this version. I like the alternate version better. Oh well. This will do until the other comes my way.

"Peyton Place" is one of my fave movies--seen it a zillion times. I actually already had a copy of this poster, but this looks like it might be a nicer copy. "Peyton Place" seems to be a more or less hard title to find. (And, my stars, it took me YEARS before I ever even SAW a "Return to Peyton Place" one sheet. Jeepers!) It wasn't too expensive, so hopefully this can replace my old copy.

I also like my old. cheesy sword & sandal/peplum movies (or, as I simply call them, "Hercules movies"--even though Herc is clearly NOT in this picture). This one is "Son of Samson". I already had a rough copy of this poster. This looked like another upgrade. Yippie!

The movie "Tentacles" SUCKS! Man,it's a stinker. The best thing about it is the one sheet (a female swimmer being attacked by a giant octopus. Very cool.).  I have that, but came across this poster recently. Like the "Beyond the Door" poster above, this one is a foreign release poster--but curiously in English. (Both posters are coming to me from Peru!)  I don't know why I bothered. Yes, this is in English and yes, it features artwork I hadn't seen before...but the movie really does suck and I really dig the U.S. one sheet more than this one. Oh well. It's a done deal.

"The Wild Rebels"??  No idea. It was just cheap and it was just a poster that was "interesting enough" (and cheap enough) to bid on from a dealer who had something else I wanted that closed at the same time. To pad out shipping costs, i bid on this too...and ended up losing the main attraction poster (which, at this point, I don't even recall what it was). Oops.

Okay this next one is a "bad" poster. Just look at creepily Leon Isaac's bulging, staring eyeballs. Is he a zombie...or is his acting that bad? Ha! I'm sure not many of you have a "Fighting Mad" poster in your collections...at least NOT on purpose. Ha! Anyone know who the artist is? 21 Century releasing employed this guy (whoever he is) for a number of their posters--including, I am sure, "Revenge of the Shogun Women"--which was the very first framed movie poster I hung on my walls as an adult. His work has a juvenile, cartoon-y feel. I actually LIKE it (particularly the "Revenge of the Shogun Women" poster obviously). Not that I wanted or needed this, but it was cheap and clearly by the same artist who did a lot of 21st Century's posters.

"The Obsessed One"--also from 21st Century, although I don't think it was the same artist--looks like another blaxploitation horror flick. I am reasonably sure I have a copy of this poster already (do I? Hmm.) But this was cheap--so why not get one to be sure? I know nothing about the movie...but it's from 1974 and the ad copy makes it sound like an "Exorcist" knock-off. Hmm.

Here's a poster that is a total mystery---"Berserker". Why do I have it? Because it came with "The Obsessed One". I know nothing about it...but also don't know if it's a theatrical poster or a video poster. There's no rating on it--but there's also no "now available on videocassette" either. It's copyrighted 1987 from American Video Group. I know at that time, some video companies were producing low budget product for theatrical release and then releasing it on video right afterwards...before just skipping theatrical releases altogether. IMDB says this HAD a theatrical release, but was this the theatrical poster...or the video poster...or BOTH? Looks funny/awful though (I saw part of the trailer on Youtube...something about a Nordic legend and a terribly silly looking fake killer bear attacking people! Ha!)

"Bandit Island"...This is the only photo that is NOT an actual photo of the poster I bought. The reason is mine was purchased on emovieposter.com...and they have that lovely watermark on all of their pictures (joy...). Anyway---had to have this one. I love gimmick flicks--and 3D is gimmick-a-rama in my book, especially since it's vintage 1950s 3D. Zowie! The graphics are great on the poster and the amazing thing is that "Bandit Island" was only a 3D short---not a feature length film. It is also, reportedly, lost. No known prints exist. Waaagh. Fun poster though.

This last new acquisition is where I need your opinion/help. Occasionally I will look on Craigslist for posters. There's usually not much--if anything--listed. However quite a while back (Maybe a year or so ago), I noticed this guy selling this one poster that had me curious. He was asking $400 for it though--and that was way out of my ballpark. After not looking at Craigslist for several months, I looked again last week and saw he still had it for sale, but had marked it down to $100. In addition to it's being pricey, I think a reason he did not sell this poster was because the owner lived in Yosemite National Park--which is quite a drive (and you have to pay $30 to get in to the park!). But at $100...  Hmm. I was tempted. You see, in addition to being autographed, there was also included a prop from the movie attached to it--all nicely framed and with a COA. I contacted the seller and decided to buy it. It's Tim Burton's  "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" poster, and is supposedly autographed by Johnny Depp and three others (actors?) from the film, and comes complete with a prop Wonka bar attached.

I went and picked it up today. It's nice and it does have a COA from a place I'd never heard of before. He said he got it at Disneyworld quite a while back. Years ago (1998) I visited the Disney-MGM Studios and went to a store selling old, original Disney movie posters. I bought an "Escape to Witch Mountain" and a 70s "Alice in Wonderland" re-release poster. But it was a simple store--no fancy framed things like this. And the WONKA remake isn't from Disney. The COA was from Starabilia--apparently a completely different store that used to be in Orlando's Downtown Disney section.

I went online to find out more information about the company. Apparently there is controversy as to whether or not the autographed memorabilia they sold was real or fake--or both. While autographed posters are not my thing and I wasn't a huge fan of the Wonka remake (I prefer the original, although the new version had it's moments and some amazing visuals), I can't imagine the Wonka bar prop was a fake...or could it have been? The film isn't that old and probably came out while Starabilia was in business. Aside from Depp, the other signatures are for the actors who played Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and Mike Tee Vee. If they were going to forge names, why not forge Tim Burton's or Christopher Lee's...why go for two kids and an old guy you've never heard of?  I'm just not sure what to think? Can they fake props easily? Hmm.

As I said, the frame is nice and it's glass in front--not plexiglass/plastic. The prop Wonka bars from this flick on eBay go for about $125 each. But are those real or fakes? Hmm. What do you think...was this a good deal, a bad deal, or an okay deal. I asked erik1925/Jeff, but have not heard back from him yet (I know he has a life and is busy...and he may not know anything about this poster / starabilia stuff). Anyone else out there know anything?  Here's some pics:

Here's the poster. Depp's signature (or is it?) is on the right just above his hand.  Just below his hand is a little plaque listing the four people whose signatures are supposed to be on the poster.

This is the prop Wonka bar and another little plaque stating it is a prop used in the film. The COA is on a separate certificate that is not attached to the poster.

Okay gang... that's it for tonight. Jinkies! Look at the time. It's way past pumpkin time for me. EEK!  I have an early appointment tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a festive and pleasant tomorrow. Good night.

Ha!

This is some very great and colorful looking art here, MAGG! Any idea what country it's from? The film was shot in Italy. And the distributor named at the top of the poster, is not one of several that imdb mentions ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071212/companycredits?ref_=ttloc_ql_5 ).

What is curious too, is that the producer and one of the co-directors (O.Hellman) are the same person. He was also one of the writers.

In any case, congrats on this one (and all the others you just listed and discussed).  thumbup

Hi MAGG, I like this one quite a lot. I wish I had some 3D effect old style posters like this.

I am pretty sure EMP will provide you an unwatermarked image of any poster you win just ask them. Not sure though if there is a time limit to that.

Hi Jeff. I'm NOT sure what country it was used for. I know the film was released as "The Devil Within Her" in England, so that's not it. I am getting the poster from Peru, but that really doesn't help as South America is Spanish/Portuguese...not English.

Oliver Hellman is the anglicised version of Ovidio Assonitis, but foreign films are often Americanizing names to make them sound like American products.

This was actually an Italian/U.S. co-production. Interiors shot in Italy, exteriors shot in San Francisco and Sausalito. Producer Edward Montoro is an interesting footnote. He founded Film Ventures International--which produced and/or distributed some wonderful trash back in the 70s/early 80s up through "Great White". From wikipaedia:

In 1980, after acquiring the Italian film Great White, another movie regarded as a Jaws rip-off, Montoro was sued by Universal Pictures because it was too derivative of the Steven Spielberg-directed hit. Great White had a large advertising budget of $4 million and achieved commercial success during its first week at the theaters. Nevertheless, Universal Pictures won the lawsuit and the film was immediately pulled from theatrical release.[8]

In 1984, Film Ventures International was on the verge of collapse due to financial issues including the release failure of Great White, the poor box office performance of Montoro's final film Mutant and his pending divorce settlement. Montoro eventually took one million dollars from FVI and vanished never to be seen again. Film Ventures International officially closed its doors in 1985. To this day, Montoro's whereabouts remain unknown, though it is believed he fled to Mexico.[9]

The unusual disappearance and the collapse of FVI have further contributed to Montoro's notorious legacy.

Also, co-director (on this poster) Robert Barret is NOT on the U.S. one sheet. Instead we have Richard Barrett listed as writer. (Robert Barrett is the name of Juliet Mills' husband's character in the film). I think Robert (or Richard) Barret(t) is another alias for Hellman/Assonitis, although "he" does have his own IMDB listing with a few scattered credits.

Finally, although it's mentioned in one of the trailers, I've never seen a poster that listed the gimmick-y "Quadraphonic Possessound" sound system that was hyped (which was probably non-existent). The British release had a similar "Vibrasound" promoted (and is mentioned on the Quad) that promised you would literally "quiver with fright".

Hi there!  Always nice to see you pop in. Yes, i LOVE the old school 3D posters with their popping-off-the-screen graphics. The new 3D movies don't even bother to promote the effect...but then the new 3D technology doesn't really pop off of the screen like the old technology did. It just adds more depth. I have a few other vintage 3D posters. Wish I had more...

As for EMP and unwatermarked pictures, I do remember seeing somewhere on the site that they would SELL (or was it LEASE???) unwatermarked images...for a price. I already paid enough for the poster...I'll just borrow an image elsewhere to illustrate it. I'm not gonna pay for an image as well. But thanks for the suggestion.

Yep--found it. Here's what it says:

Thanks for the additional details, MAGG. From what I read, Barrett is also another alias of the director/producer, Assonitis. He was much the one man band on this film. I wouldn't be surprised if he made an appearance in it, as well, even if uncredited...LOL

Coming from Peru.. yet all the text in English (with the exception of the one typo) is curious. And i see no printer's info on the bottom borders. Can i ask.. what is written next to the one carriage wheel? Maybe the artist's name? I can't quite make it out.

Regardless, the art sure pops, has amazing detail and I think it's kick-ass!  thumbsup.gif

Congrats again on the acquisition!

Jeff, the name near the baby carriage wheel is "Spataro". Ever heard of him/her? The artwork is nice...but, as I said, it really doesn't fit the movie. The woman's face could be Juliet Mills...but the crone on the left with the weird tendril thing hanging from her cheek...who is that? Not possessed Juliet...and not anyone else in the movie either. Oh well--it's still nice.
