27" x 39" Lebanese poster derived from an Egyptian design by al-Khad for a 1986 Ahmed Yehia film about a man who built and occupied a tiny house in Cairo.   This one also marked a personal milestone for me because it is the first web page I've done using a process I've learned to use that supports bidirectional editing for displays with mixed Persian/Arabic/English content.  Until now I've been cutting and pasting in the non-English bits from Google translate.

27" x 39" undated Egyptian rerelease poster by an unknown artist for a beautiful Egyptian adaptation of Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov; it makes me think of the 1958 Richard Brooks version with Maria Schell as Grushenka.  In this version Nadia Lutfi as Lula is a memorable Egyptian Grushenka!

The road, dark mountains, sky and glowing, white area in the background remind me of the artwork for Close Encounters.

I think that must have been the inspiration for the poster.  Good work Jeff!  There's no comparison at all between the two films :)

I figured there was zero similarity, film-wise, but just in the poster art itself.  binoc.gif

Amar al-Zaman قمر الزمان Naglaa Fathy 1976 Lebanese one-sheet poster

27" x 39" Lebanese poster derived from an Egyptian design produced in a collaboration between Studio Hani and Hassan Mazhar Gasour for a film about a carnival puppeteer [Mustafa Fahmy] who uses marionettes and a stage orchestra in elaborate field productions.  These shows gradually take in the participation of the film's star Amar al-Zaman [Naglaa Fathy]. Born in 1964 of Circassian descent, Naglaa Fathy has an impressive body of work in the Egyptian film industry, but at age 64 she is now retired.

26.25" x 38.75" Syrian poster designed by Said Hassan al-Zaim and Yahya for a 1978 Egyptian crime film that was banned in Egypt, probably because of too many bikinis.

27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Moaty for a 1981 Henry Barakat film made in Egypt and Syria.  There are several interesting things about this film and its poster.  For one thing, 20 years after the formal end of the United Arab Republic the project depicts an ongoing relationship at the family level between Syria and Egypt.  The story is also interesting because it centers on a relationship between two sisters and the choices they make involving a sacrifice in a love relationship for the sake of financial considerations--a perennial dilemma everywhere in the world.  This was one of the later films by the famous Egyptian actress Shadia, who was still a major star.

27" x 39" Egyptian one-sheet by an unknown designer for the 1991 Mohamed Khan film Knight of the City.  This is a dark and complicated film, one of the few I've seen recently among the Egyptian films that has legible and well-written subtitles:

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Gasour and Anise for a 1979 Aly Badrakhan film about an honor killing that took place during the construction of the Suez Canal (1859-1869).  The film is a revised version of a story by Shawqi Abdel Hakim.  The original story justified honor killings, but in Badrakhan's revised version the blame is not placed entirely on the woman's shoulders.  Both the film and the original story are indications that not everybody in Egypt is reconciled to the practice of killing women to save family honor.

The use of color on these Egyptian posters knocks me for a loop.
Well done, John.

Beautiful, John. This is another that reminds me of the artistic style of Osvaldo Venturi, in some ways.

John, interesting that you have a 1997RR poster for this film (and I think the poster is very cool, btw) yet no other posters from the first release seem to be around, aside from a set of Mexican LC that EMP auctioned back in May of 2012, with what looks like the same artwork design as your poster:

Egyptian poster for Tai Chi Shadow Boxing
« Reply #599 on: May 17, 2019, 02:27:48 PM »
https://www.mopopoc.com/2016/12/tai-chi-shadow-boxing-1979-jackie-chen.html

This is a 27" x 39" Egyptian poster designed by Abdel Ghani for a 1987 rerelease of the 1979 Han-Hsiang Yu film Tai Chi Shadow Boxing AKA Feng shi guai tu written by Ji-Shang Lu and starring Jackie Chen. Plot summary: Two brothers befriend an old drunk, who then teaches them the deadly art of Tai Chi Shadow Boxing; the three go on a crusade to help downtrodden people.  Egyptian martial arts posters such as this one have been popular on eBay because of the liking people have for painted designs instead of photos.
