Deutschland paper is madly underrated.

From the unobtainable:

(all by Josef Fenneker)

To the modernist...

(by one of my utmost favourite designers; Hans Hillmann)

(by Karl Oskar Blase)

Fenneker is just outstanding. I wouldn't mind having a couple of those.

Those done in the decades past, often brought out the most interesting and artistic, no matter the country.

These are fantastic, ladeda!

The first two certainly have a propaganda look to them. Jews were portrayed in this way in many German political posters. The first one is called "the Invisible Thief," according to this from 1920.

Re Josef Fenneker:
A “ combination of Radio City Music Hall and Graumans Chinese Theater”, any film premiering there gained “instant prestige”. Thus, Fenneker was not just another movie poster designer, but THE movie posterist of his day, in whose hands the “art of the film poster arguably reached its zenith.

The third one is about a battle, called "Debt of Honor" actually says "not a propaganda film" I wonder if some of his works were criticized for appearring to be? The last two have quite the look "Derailed" and "A world without love"

Nice stuff, thanks for sharing.

The Fenneker posters are rather nice although I'm not sure I'd want to wake up in the middle of the night and find one at the foot of my bed!

It would be naive to dismiss it and say it was solely the expressionist influence. There's a foreboding doom to Fenneker's earlier work that I imagine was the tone of Berlin at the time (his style shifted dramatically in the 20s and even further in the 30s)

Albin Grau also captured that well with overt influence of german occultism:

I actually bid on the Eine Welt Ohne Liebe poster last year. Of course I was beat by a dealer now offering it for a mere $15,000  crying

I thought "hey maybe I'll pick up a Fenneker", google search, shattered dreams, etc.
At least those awesome images don't have any watermarks.

Fenneker and Grau were both 'back of beyond' madmen.
They must've been separated at birth.

It's not that I don't appreciate rarity, more that I'd have to sell both of my children to raise the equity...
