2014 in prints
« on: December 19, 2014, 11:40:41 PM »
It has been truly a horrendous year in the world of prints.  I got nothing (that is, compared to years past).  Mondo, the main culprit, has vomited some of the worst artwork since its 2008 heydays.  Thankfully, others stepped up to the plate.  Amongst the few I acquired, here are my favs.

Lolita 1 of 1 by Janée Meadows

Guardians of the Galaxy reg and variant by Tyler Stout

Halloween by Matt Ryan Tobin (out of 30)

The Birds, Rear Window, Back to the Future 2, Journey to the Center of the Earth, It's a Wonderful Life by Laurent Durieux

The Jungle Book by Olly Moss

Frozen, War of the Worlds by Tom Whalen

Duel by Casey Callender

Nosferatu by Nicolas Delort

Close Encounters of the Third Kind by Mark Englert

Blade Runner by Kako and Carlos Bêla

Batman Returns by Craig Drake

Oh...Nosferatu  and The Birds.

I don't understand  a thing about prints (please forgive my ignorance )  but those two in particular I can certainly  appreciate.  There is an unspoken edge to the poster which I find very unique and  truthful  to the memory I have of these films.

.....i need to get some... girly2.gif

Oh yeah, I forgot about it.  I got the Horkey variant.  Not a big Horkey fan, but I did like this one.  I'm so late updating my website.

First print ever: Thanks to Tob for the hook up!!!!! notworthy.gif thumbsup.gif

Artist Matt Taylor describing his poster:

For my design, I went back to Struzan’s original concept posters - there is a great one with Marty vanishing from the feet up, and as soon as I saw it I knew that I wanted to use it as my starting point. I think PCC and Laurent have closed the book on using the Delorean so I deliberately stayed away from that and focused instead on Marty and his instantly recognisable features. I used the title block from the original poster and stripped out the rest of the type so that the image stood alone on the page. I’m really happy with how it turned out and I hope that the Mondo faithful dig it as well.

Good choices there, T. I agree with most of them.

I'd also add Ghost in the Shell by Martin Ansin. Either the foil (which is very nicely used as opposed to being gimmicky) or the reg. I love the composition and detail, it flows beautifully. The title is great too...one of those optical illusions where it is just a circle of lines up close, but forms the title the further you get.

A few others I liked (Matt Ferguson Guardians of the Galaxy, Laurent Durieux Vertigo and Jock Pan's Labyrinth):

Anytime! I think you'll like it when you see it in the flesh. Vibrant colours and I think it's a clever design (I'm a bit sick of the Delorean!)

There are those couple wing-ed fairy-like creatures on the poster.. so the purple sounds like a win-win!   ;D
