Linen-Backed Three Sheets in our Frames

And just so Im clear ( a little foggy today..)... in a 3 sheet size frame, are more than one overlay used on the front, to cover and protect the poster?

No Jeff, it is just one overlay for the 3 sheet. We can cut the overlays up to size 48" x 96"

This thread deserves a bump (  ) for anyone wanting or wondering if Spotlight Displays (http://www.spotlightdisplays.com/)  can "handle" a US 3 sheet, with a one piece overlay.

Hi McFree, I think a one sheet overlay just means one piece, rather than using 2 small pieces side by side. Linen backing a 3 sheet will cost quite a bit so framing a folded poster can still be done and probably most would do. I haven't framed a folded poster so hopefully someone here who has can advise. I'd still frame it folded and undroop it when necessary than not frame it because of that!

yes as Steve said the overlays come rolled, all in one piece, which is awesome.  Also, there is no backing for your frame, the backing is actually the wall on which you are mounting the poster.  Rob usually throws in an extra overlay, so you can use that on the back of the poster so your poster isnt directly on the wall/paint.  This makes everything nice and snug so there should be no sagging (f-u gravity)

If over time you see any sagging, which MAY be something that could happen given the weight of a linenbacked 3 sheet, all you need to do is put a couple pf pieces of cardboard (or better yet, acid free coroplast) to add some pressure to the system and make everything ever more snug.

Thanks Vick and 50s guys for answering. Mcfree we can provide overlays up to size 48" X 96" So for a 3 sheet you will be fine. The largest size I have experience with in my own house is a Thierry hates "French Grande" 47" X 63" non-linen. It was really flat to begin with and still looks good and it's been up for about a year.

If people need bigger overlays for say a six sheet we would give them two 40.5" X 81" overlays as we can only provide 48" X 96". They would then have a seam to deal with. Now there is a company I can recommend that can give people an overlay for a 6 sheet.

All frames come with 2 overlays, one for the front and one for the back.

All three of you (USMCSS, Vick, & 50's guy) helped in your own way : )  Very appreciated. Three sheets are super big and hanging one is a big commitment. But it's definitely good to know you're here USMCSS.

And here is the info on the 81" X 81"! I have not even spoke to him yet but a customer of mine recommended them. He buys 6 sheet frames and uses this company for the overlays. Tell them Robert Perry from Spotlight Displays and Jim Cook sent you.

The linenbacking is usually too thick to allow this to work easily

Croweyes, If there's plenty of excess linen, I've just trimmed the linen a bit to fit in a frame.  The trick for me is to always make sure to leave an inch or more of linen past the edge of the poster to help ensure the poster edge and linen adhesion are protected.  Best, Okie
