Jerry Ohlinger in the News

AS posted by Rudy Franchi to MOPO, this morning. What a legal fiasco, it sounds like this might turn into for Jerry Ohlinger.  Doh.gif

Obviously must be more to the story but it never ceases to amaze me the amount of scandal that takes places in this hobby

Nice....

Ohlinger's suit says he partnered with Hu and Chatoff in 2003, when they formed a joint venture to produce copies of movie posters, with Ohlinger paying the couple $4 for each high quality reproduction made on a laser scanner by Legend Movie Posters Corp.

The scumbag admits to buying fakes from his partners in his suit against them.

What a piece of shit.

That made me raise an eyebrow, too, Z.

But if they were advertised & sold as repros/copies... then it's all is good.

I don't think it sounds like JO was doing anything wrong here, except being behind on rent perhaps.
But as always we will never know the whole story.

That is correct.  I've bought from him before.  He had both originals and commercial prints available, labeled correctly.  I'm sure you gotta pay the rent somehow on a poster store in the middle of Manhattan.  And from the sound of it, selling dorm posters wasn't enough to stay afloat anyway.

There is no reason for any eyebrow or outrage. Most dealers with shops (if still around) need the reproduction posters to survive. If shops cater only for collectors they would all be bankrupt, now that constitutes an outrage. A lot of young people start their love for movie posters, i.e. paper in hand or on the wall, with repro's

In fact, that is how I started as well!  The only reason I ever walked into your buddy's store in Amsterdam was because a friend I was with was looking for some cheap commercial prints.  Changed my life!

Jerry is one of the good guys.  Been around a long time and always a straight shooter.  And no, I don't know him personally, only through internet dealings and at movie paper shows.  Always wondered why he doesn't make an appearance at Cinevent in Ohio.
I'll raise a glass to the illusion but drink to the reality.

I think it would be lucky if that movie got picked up for distribution at all!
