Movieposterdb.com before it went down

Very nice. I think the C/U images are amazing.

And MPDB did go down but it also morphed into and became CineMaterial. This happened a few years ago, if I'm remembering right, they even sent out an email at the time, explaining what happened to all who had joined and created an account with them. I think the 2 guys that started MBDB had a parting of ways.

Here's the current site:

These posters came from MovieArt Austin.  And they are still on display at the Alamo Drafthouse on Anderson Lane in Austin.  MovieArt Austin has the largest selection of U.S. 24 sheets of any dealer in the US.  I took this photo.

What kind of collector/entity buys 24 sheets? Considering the impossible size, enormous restoration costs, buyers have to be:

Not necessarily crazy.  Many collectors own posters that they have no intention of displaying.  I sold a THUNDERBALL 24 to a collector that had it backed and it is up in his work area, a large space to be sure.  We have sold 24 sheets to theaters, bars, law firms, restaurants and museums, as well as individuals.  For completists who want everything on a film, 24 sheets are often the last poster they acquire - because they are scarce in the overall scheme of things.

Yes, I would have loved a 24 sheet to complete my Paths of Glory collection (with no desire on my part to display it) but no posters are known to have survived.

We sold a 24 sheet for PATHS OF GLORY in 1997 for $1000.  It was pasted to a wall and later the building was torn down.  crying

Love me tender
Love Me True
ALL my dreams FULFILLED

Just a few of these remain.  I have counted maybe five.  The first film of Elvis Presley.  This 24 sheet will be auctioned at Heritage in Dallas in the upcoming signature sale in July.

Full disclosure:  I have one of these on my website, so, of course, I hope it does well.
