24 sheets
« on: September 27, 2014, 02:01:32 PM »
Truly fantastic art, imo, of Laurel and Hardy on this rare, possibly only known to exist, 24 sheet done for The Flying Deuces (1939)thumbsup.gif

Seller mrs.miniver wants only $85K for it, but that's a different story.  ;)

Does this guy ever sell anything, like ever?  His prices are so beyond ridiculous sometimes I wonder if he even owns the pieces he is offering, knowing very well that no sane collector will ever bid on his shit.

Looks like he sold about 8 things in the last year (or that received feedback). But all the sales/items on his feedback page are marked as "Private" --  so no way to know what specifically was sold.

Good luck to her. I wouldn't want those 2 any near me..let alone at that size.

They are scary.

What do you think his game is, Ari?  Does he own the posters he sells, does he actually expect to sell them at the listed price or is it a front for something else?

Hes probably trying to sell it on contract, I seen 2 or 3 sellers before trying to float it around online.

I think he has them or access to them at least. Sean or rich would know. But it's Matt Shapiro I believe. He was or is on mopo. I guess it's just advertising of some sort. I doubt e expects to sell via ebay but maybe off ebay.

I thought he was a collector.  Not a dealer.

Whatever he is, I think he's giving this hobby a bad name.  Imagine a newbie who doesn't know anything about posters and sees his ridiculous prices.  That would deter anyone from joining.

I've been thinking of putting the Superman up. Pics to come on that one. I actually do have one wall I could do it on but it gets hit with direct sunlight every day.

to answer T's previous question, he should own most or all of what he sells. I don't know if he does or does not own the L&H specifically, but he's not usually a front for anyone I can think of.

going further, sometimes it's necessary to take an objective look at how other people and things work outside of yourself to understand the deal.
For instance, if it doesn't matter to his bank account if he does or does not sell anything, how would that affect his outlook on prices and what he is or is not trying to do.
as was pretty much being said by myself and also by Sean in that other thread is that everything in this hobby does not fit into a buttonhole the way it works in other hobbies.

moreover, what something is worth to one person doesn't have to fit with what it's worth to someone else.

if you were to contact him and say "Boy, I sure would like to buy that 24-sheet from you, but damn the price is so high" all he's going to do is answer you "Find another copy. happy collecting"......
