A few of these on my watch list. Good luck tonight!
Thanks. Good luck to you, too.
The major problem with Yugo posters is they have the same art as many of the US OS posters. It doesn't surprise me that you won't get what you think they are worth. Why spend money on a smaller version of a US OS that you can't read. I've seen one eBay seller list ridiculous amount for Hitchcock posters near the same as US posters. Unless you are a completest there just isn't much there to boost prices.
I know all that, and I agree with you almost 100%.
However, there is another things to consider.
1. Top titles, actors, or directors (Vertigo, Forbidden Planet, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Hitchcock, Monroe...).
- There is a lot of people who can't afford to buy US posters because they are too expensive. So they are looking for original theatrical posters, but much affordable. So, Argentinian and Yugoslavian posters fits perfectly there. Yugo posters usually goes for 10-20% of value of US (or any "country of origin" poster).
- On the top titles, actors, or directors there are collectors who looking for all available types and varieties.
e.g. I have mentioned OUTCRY poster. There is a lot of people who collect anything related to Antonioni. Artwork by Manno is also very nice.
Yugo have same art as Italian 1P. Now, probably lot of people would like to have that poster, however you dont see that one often, and when it show up - price is goes relatively high. So, there is Yugo poster with the same artwork. It should be worth probably somewhere about 10-20% of the Italian, so estimate somewhere in 100-200 $ range. Actual price at the EMP is $22, so it is bargain however you look it.
2. At the 50`s and even 60`s, often there was not used original artwork but Yugoslavian artists have done artwork.
e.g. Artwork for the RHAPSODY (with Liz Taylor) is completely different and it is done by Yugoslavian artist Stokic:
http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=3545512or Alfred Lehner artwork for: LULLABY OF BROADWAY and GRAND MANEUVER: or Ivanisevic artwork for MOST WANTED MAN
I have not see this artwork for FOUR BAGS FULL anywhere, so it is most probably done by some Yugoslavian artist:
http://auctions.emovieposter.com/Bidding.taf?_function=detail&Auction_uid1=35454803. For some reason there are not too much Yugoslavian posters from 50s that are survived (compare to most other Europian countries, or US). Most of them ended at two major dealers. They hold high (sometime insanely) prices for years and years (You have mention Hitchcock posters). And they will keep to hold high prices. Just because there is almost no competition and you can`t find most of those posters anywhere else. And belive or not, they are selling them. Not in large quantity, but there are buyers who pay sometimes ridiculous high amounts of money.
So, when some of those posters show up at the auctions, that is rare opportunity to get them for decent price.
