O.K.  For the doubters on this forum who think "outing" posters here makes NO difference. Here's the proof that just a picture posted will create interest....

After posting my Supergirl 4shts, the next day I thought I would see if I could find the last one, as I believe there was 3 produced. I couldn't believe my luck, I found it, on a buy it now. A bit expensive, but put an offer in. The short story is I missed out as the fellow selling it let me know there was "all of a sudden loads of interest in Supergirl Posters, and he'd sold a few that had been sitting on the internet for ages...

This is part of his reply:-

Dear paul,

Very sorry about that.
All seemed a bit unusual as it had gone from no interest on them for some time to offers on both within 24 hours.

You guys wanted proof, this fellow does not go on forums, so could not have know of what had been posted on here, but has now expressed an interest in joining them...

But such market activity could follow the posting of any postage image and subsequent discussion on any thread in this forum Paul surely? Not just those listed in the mid-auction thread. Your Supergirl posters produced numerous positive comments - I liked them as well - Thierry said he wanted to get one and Ari said this title always sells well - endorsements from two well-respected collectors. Had they taken a contrary view and been impolite enough to express it would seem more probable that the seller would not have received such interest - even offers from only two or three other people (not me I hasten to add) might be described as "loads of interest" if there had previously been none.

Nice bit of proof, Paul.
How do you and Mark, (and everyone else) think about this as all fair game? It is at the end of the day, though my personal morals prevent me from outing an auction (if I don't have any direct interest in it) and so if I think there is a poster a member will like I will let them know privately.

It's the same as anything that has rarely or never been seen before - interest in it will peak when exposed.
Best wishes,
Adam

Interesting Paul. I'm not surprised by the sudden interest. For those who like researching before buying the endorsement in this forum might have been a good incentive.

But there could be other factors.  Maybe a re-run of that film somewhere else. .who knows!!

But an interesting point for sure.

Mark, that was my point exactly. Anything posted on a forum can, and will create interest. I have seen it before, but this happened recently so I thought it was a good time to mention it.

The dealers and outing crowd have said give us proof, well here's one example that wasn't set-up, it just happened. The fact Dealers post their wears on here is the biggest proof for me thought...

Mind the fellow who sold the Supergirl posters said it was a London buyer... ;)

So basically, we should never show pictures or talk about ANY poster, because it can potentially make more people interested in getting it, thus making the price of that poster go up, and spoil it for those who wanted to buy it?

Oh please.

That's why I only post pics of posters I already own - let those prices rise, baby, rise! ;)

That's how I read it also.
I do notice a lot on this forum that certain items and themes have gained steam and become "cooler" if some people post, seems others follow.
I wouldn't blame the mid auction thread for this as much as new acquisitions thread.

I don't know what price the ones above were selling for but I do know that every supergirl daybill I have had in the last 14 years sold very quickly. I'd buy a dozen in a flash.

One could draw a parallel between this and the "outing" saga, that sharing a photo of a particular poster, genre, etc., could cause people to gain interest in the item(s), and potentially increase competition.  It's not a big mystery.  Amazing that a thread about one of the coolest formats has to have this saga rehashed..

Getting back to 40x60s..

Don't stay on the lookout for a 40x60 too much longer, Jeff.  Thanks to this thread, the demand for them is skyrocketing!   faint2.gif

That's my take too. Strange that it has just the opposite effect on me. Not that the poster would become less appealing, but I would not be able to go for it as will associate it with that person..so most like copying someone's else taste.

But i see what you mean Ari.

As Neo says, back to the posters...

I'm posting this U.K. 6sht, as it will never have the Quad size piece with the title on that is missing. So it will now always be a 60x40...

It is Mr Hay from Wildbag the Sailer..

I was at one point looking for a press-book to see what the rest of the poster looked like, but to no avail.

Nice one Charlie!  So are you going trying to assemble a Liz collection to rival Thierry's Spielberg collection?   8)
