Create a function for Today's Posts (New Posts)
« on: June 19, 2014, 04:46:33 AM »
Hi,

Following on from my earlier suggestion and the ever increasing numbers of forums to dip in and out of, does there currently exist, and if not can there be created, a function to group all the new or today's posts into one clump at the click of a button?

Cheers for all.

That's how I browse the forum. I am on my phone so can't check how it looks exactly but there's link for SHOW NEW POSTS and another for SHOW NEW REPLIES or something. I never look in all the subforums ONLY look at the site like this. The sub forums might be good for OCD but to me it's a pain to navigate as there's way to many clicks.

Yup. 'Show unread posts since last visit' is the only way to travel...

Grrr - I am perhaps showing up my limitations, but where is this button?

I should have pretended I just created it.

This is great, but even more important is the tab at the far right that says "Mark ALL messages as read"

You click on "Show unread posts since last visit.", then you open the ones that interest you, and then you click on "Mark ALL messages as read" and all the boring ones disappear (I find this invaluable for certain dealers and auctions, and also topics I have no interest in, like sports discussions).

Using these two together judiciously lets you view everything you do care about, and never have to see what you don't care about, and makes your time here far more productive.

You learn something new every day!  I only view the forum with "Show unread posts since last visit" but the leftovers do hang around for a while sometimes.  This should tidy it up nicely... Thanks Bruce.

the leftovers do hang around for a while sometimes.

This was especially annoying when the Mexican guy posted endlessly, but it still helps a lot for those auction people who post every day about the same set of auctions that don't close for a week or a month.

I felt my life had changed for the better when I discovered the "Mark ALL messages as read" tab and never had to look at those again!
