Ken Taylor
« on: March 22, 2014, 12:11:34 AM »
The guy is probably the most productive artist out of the Mondo flock.  I missed out on a bunch of stuff, but this is what I own at this point.  I'm particularly found of Halloween, Alien and T2.

My fav remains...

The rest...

The '20000 Leagues Under the Sea' is pretty cool looking.

I think that is the epitome of his work.

For me...
1. 20,000 Leagues
2. Alien (egg) GID
3. T2 (Although the image is much better suited to T1)

This is not a screen print, but it was the one that put him on the map...

Burning sugar cane...

For me, Taylor's best remains POLTERGEIST for several reasons. I agree with you, Thierry.

Close second are his reg and variant duo for METROPOLIS, which is the best on the title in the onslaught of recent screen prints, including Ansin, Durieux, etc.
The detail is really extraordinary. Gold is variant, silver the reg:

Nice Metropolis.  I had never seen it before.

I think this one deserves its own post...

Also, I'm actually quite surprised the Poltergeist hasn't gone up in value.

It's not that great a flick...  :P

I like his metropolis, but there was another that I liked better on the title (Can't remember who, but it sure wasn't Ansin...)

Not a fan of his Halloween at all. MM in plain view along with the oddly colored and placed leaves throw it for me.

For my money, the Jock print NAILS the feel and tone of the film eons more than the Taylor.

I know its cliche at this point, but if there was a print that is so much better in person than in jpg form, its this one.

Ha. Push come to shove, its probably not the best example of fine American cinema, but damn if I don't love that one more and more each year. Sentimental favorite for me, out of that hallowed decade.

Also, curious which Metrop you are referring to, Archie. There are tons out there, simply because any schmo can tackle the property since it is public domain.

Never liked that one.  I don't understand what Michael is doing behind the drapes.  Jerking off?

Actually...

Scarier than the goldfish leaves dominating the Taylor, IMO.

I like both of the Halloween prints.  Jocks fits the film better...  Taylor should of at least had a pumpkin somewhere...

This was the one I was thinking of...it is a Laurent Durieux, apparently...

Yeah that's a good one. When he gets it right, it's a home run.

I snagged an AP from him when he offered them.

Yeah, I agree with you Wonka...love the Jock print. I find the unsettling parts of the film are catching glimpses of Myers here and there as he stalks Laurie. It evokes that really well IMO (the scene where that masks appears amongst the billowing sheets and then disappears again next time she looks is so creepy).

Taylor has a cool style. It works great with this genre and he stays consistent with it.Halloween,Metroplis and 20,000 Leagues are phenomenal!! Halloween and 20,000 Leagues could be in my top five Mondo's.

I think it's just a little too basic,Thierry. The tree and the house are done beautifully but it needed something else (poltergeist, corpses) to elevate it into the 'Halloween,20,000 League' level.

It is entirely too much effort to go read on expresso beans, but what seems to be going on in mondo world? This Island Earth and Predator not selling out for over a day is a head scratcher to say the least especially when it is from one of their better artist. Is the market getting ready to spiral?

...always love it when the non-Mondo collecting peanut gallery/experts weigh in. L O L Z.

It comes down to art...good art will always be in demand, no matter what the edition is. Saturation doesn't really cover it.

Beanie babies wasn't and remains a horrible metaphor with the Mondo market...
