Boris Vallejo

Ok, he is one of of my favorite poster artists ,and the only one I am currently collecting.  Unlike some, Struzan for example, he has 2 dozen posters at most.  This thread is intended to serve as a master list of posters containing Boris art, and eventually house photos of all of those posters.  Maybe if this one works out well, others can do the same for other artists.  It would certainly prove a valuable resource to collectors.

As a longtime Boris fan, I am always scouring the net for images of this man's work.  And, as Schan and Bruce both pointed out, he has many imitators.  Here is a Turkish Conan the Destroyer one sheet I recently purchased only because the clever Turks had photoshopped a Boris image into the lower right (not to mention the fact that they had also added a Grace Slick Bond image to the lower left).
The image is Red Sonja, painted for a series of Boris pieces on the red-haired heroine of the Hyborian Age. The art they swiped has nothing to do with the movie but I guess they thought it looked cooler than the photo montage on the American 1 sheet.
And, as proof of how imitated Boris' work is, I have also included a B&W chili ad that I just found where a very talented artist (who didn't need to to do this) swiped the same image for this Chili Takedown ad.

Hi, Folks!

Two British quads incorporating similar artwork ...

... apologies for the next image - we don't have the poster, so can't re-photograph it ...

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the moderators, may I point out that one of our two NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION quads is currently on MoviePosterBid.com at an opening bid of 35 US dollars

Best wishes,

Thanks Terry, I wasnt intentionally leaving out British or any other nationalities for that matter.  I simply chose to include only those international posters with unique artwork.  It is worth pointing out, though, that many of these are available with the same art in various international formats, most notably UK quads and Australian one sheets and daybills.

Speaking of Quads -- and I absolutely love the format --
here is a cool variation of Boris' Q.
I don't own it -- yet...

I'm sure that you are aware of the two different versions of the poster.   The regular (as shown) and the advance, with the 'Blah Blah' credits.  Either way it's one of my all time favorite posters.

I don't have a picture of mine right now, but I've got the theatrical one sheet for Deathstalker 2, which shows the girl wearing a g-string rather than a bikini bottom like in the video poster.

Really?  Is it the same art, with just a g-string bottom instead of the bikini?  I didn't even think Deathstalker II was released theatrically...........

I'd love to see a picture.

Yes, it's the exact same artwork, but with a blue g-string instead of a regular blue bottom. It's also 27 x 41. I'm not sure if it's the theatrical version, but it's definitely a different version. I'll try to upload a pic in a sec.

I just noticed that her top is also skimpier in this version:

Found that SOB!!  I've been on the trail of this obscure piece of Boris art for quite a while.  It along with the Barbarian Queen II art are to my knowledge the only two pieces of Boris art that were used theatrically exclusively outside the US.  This is discounting the Turkish Conan one sheet that used a small snippet of Boris' "Hyborian Age" art.

BTW, I thought you had already posted a pic of this DEATHSTALKER IV on this thread, but I see you haven't... so here it is...

To be honest Ted, yours is the first one of those I have ever seen.  I knew the image existed because it is also on the DVD cover, but never had confirmation that the film had a video release poster until now!  Same goes for Amazons, I keep waiting for a video one sheet of that to pop up.  Oh well, Deathstalker IV, another one to add to the search!

Regarding Razorback, there is another piece of art, seen on the Australian daybill and a few other posters I believe that is similar.  This is not by Mr. Vallejo though.  I am not sure if one ripped off the other or if they just received strict guidelines from the film's marketing department on what elements to include in the art.  The Boris art exists on the Belgian and, I think, the Italian locandia.  The reason I say I think is because the photo I saw advertised as an Italian locandia still had the Dutch?? tagline at the top.  The stated size was right for a locandia though.

Here is the daybill for comparison

sweet!

Also I noticed you didn't show the Barbarian Queen video poster. Is that because it's the same artwork as the theatrical one sheet?

Boris used to use his ex-wife as a model.. She had a body to kill for

unfortunately, her face looked like a Mack truck hit her.. Not double-bag ugly.. but you get the idea

Yup, thats why.  I didn't post images of any video posters with the same art as their theatrical counterparts.  In the case of Deathstalker II, I did not even realize it had a theatrical release when I made the thread.

Yeah, that is pretty nice.  Glad to see he is back to work.  He and his wife are great artists.

Awesome stuff.  It reminds me very much of a comic book cover.  I can't tell but it looks like the title might be prismatic.

I hear the advance with BLAH BLAH BLAH for all the names in the credit block is hard to find?

Eye catching.Though  I can NOT see his sex appeal. I would not go any near that guy even if he was the last man standing. But i will take the poster and the bike! :P ;)

It was more sought after at the time of release leading to a perceived short supply.  My friend's theater received a 50/50 split.  I have a few around here somewhere...
