Batman
« on: June 18, 2013, 11:59:36 PM »
I have no idea what I am looking for in terms of an actual poster. It seems my daughter wants to buy her (new) husband a Batman poster but she seems to feel he would prefer from an animation movie (so the same type of poster) rather than something out of the more recent releases.

I saw Batman: Gotham Knight which as a poster looks pretty good but I suspect he may think it cooler if he gets something more vintage (specially as she has a few from her Daddy on the wall  :D ), but I really have no idea where or what to look for.

So can someone point me in the best direction so I can pass on to her, yes I could spend an hour Googling but I figured why not use the forum and the experts that lurk here, that's what a forum is for too.

tia!

Don't tell him I said it .. besides I'm sure he will be a long any moment to plug his own site/archive .. But .. Bruce's auction history set to "grid" view is a really easy way to run through a lot of pics of posters. Here's a simple search for Batman on there.

As for what would be good .. that really depends on what he likes. I personally am all about the hyper-modern trash! :) You could go animation posters .. or old TV show/movie posters .. or comic based posters. I guess if you could find out his favorite era for Batman or possibly his favorite artist that did some Batman comics, it could lend you an idea to the styles that he prefers.

Too bad he doesn't like Superman instead. Then THIS would be my pick.

If you want a more comic-booky feel it's hard to beat the '66 paper.  I think the only one I don't really care for is the US 1-sheet.  Some nice ones....

r70s Argentinian 1-sheet: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/6225510.html

r80s Spanish 1-sheet: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/14620061.html

French 1p: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/249968.html

French petite: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/2360144.html

Italian 2p (locandina has the same image in a MUCH smaller format): http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/12617430.html

Italian double photobusta (nice shot of the villians): http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/654196.html

Belgian (can't say I've ever seen a first release sold, but presumably the same image): http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/749371.html

And of course the grand-daddy of them all, the UK Quad -- originals are big bucks, here is the repro: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/4832598.html

Thanks guys...fabulous food for thought and have passed on to daughter for her to consider. I had seen the Belgium in my attempted research, I like it and she does have a Lolita Belgian framed in the house so IMHO it might make a nice size match - who knows.

Sadly I think they may be a little hooked on movie posters, I probably didn't help my daughter in this regards because she gets to pick over any her Daddy owns.   :-\
