U.S. one-sheet poster.  Linen-Backed.   NICE PEOPLE (1922) $3500  

Paramount Pictures Original U.S. One-Sheet Poster for the William DeMille directed drama NICE PEOPLE (1922), starring Wallace Reid, Bebe Daniels, Conrad Nagel and Julia Faye. The film was adapted from a play by Rachel Crothers, which was produced in New York in 1921. William DeMille was the older brother of Cecil B. DeMille. The brothers were born into a theatrical family; William was born in 1878. He was a successful Broadway playwright, authoring several plays. After Cecil moved to Hollywood, William soon followed. Both men played a major role in the development of the industry in California. William DeMille married an actress Anne George, and one of two children that he fathered with her grew up to be the well known choreographer Agnes DeMille. William De Mille directed over ninety movies. NICE PEOPLE is a flapper-era melodrama about a girl whose reputation is rescued from scanda and who settles down into a conventional life. The screenplay is by Clara Beranger, who would become William DeMille's second wife in 1929. William DeMille is remembered as major figure in the silent era, while Cecil's career extended into the late fifties. By the beginning of the sound era, William's career in directing was coming to an end. He helped to found the USC Film School, and after another stab at writing for Broadway, he remained associated with U.S.C. for the rest of his life. Wallace Reid and Bebe Daniels were enormous stars in 1922, but this film is, alas, deemed a lost film by the AFI. Fortunately, this poster is not lost. This is the style B one-sheet, and is notable for not picturing Wallace Reid. THREE DARING DAUGHTERS (1948) MGM STONE LITHOGRAPH SIX SHEET VERY FINE



Original MGM U.S. Six Sheet Poster for the Fred M. Wilcox directed musical film THREE DARING DAUGHTERS (1948).  The three daring daughters in the film are Jane Powell, Ann E. Todd and Elinor Donahue.  Their mother is Jeannette MacDonald.  She's an editor for a design magazine and she's stressed out from her job.  What she needs is a vacation, and being Jeanette MacDonald it needs to be a musical vacation.  Enter the protean musical leading man Jose Iturbi.  He's going to romance Jeanette on a Cuban cruise, and the charming MGM daughters are going to do irrepressible things all throughout the film.  This is the kind of entertainment that MGM was expert at turning out.  This poster, which is an oversized, large format six-sheet is a stone lithograph in excellent condition.  It's printed on five separate panels which are joined together to present as one poster.  MGM would soon move to offset lithography for almost all its posters.  But here we see exactly the type of large format poster that is characteristic of MGM in the forties and before.  MovieArt Original Film Posters in Austin, Texas guarantees that this poster is authentic.  MovieArt Austin does not sell reproductions.
