eBay not allowing email addresses in messages anymore...
« on: December 07, 2012, 01:38:34 PM »
Just noticed that eBay now refuses to allow you to send messages with email addresses.  Been negotiating some deals and when I tried to send the seller my email for them to send me a Paypal invoice and eBay said try again!  I guess I can't blame them, I like how they act like it's for the protection of the buyer, but it's not really going to stop people.  So looks like we now have to spell out an email, until they figure out a way to detect that.

Just take a screenshot of what you want to say, save it as a jpg image and include it in the message.

That will work for now.

I sent mine 3 days back and it worked fine, I think it's random at the moment, as a friend of mine had this happen back in February...

I don't know.  Could be just limited to eBay.com, I've found the other countries eBay's don't tend to be as anal about continually limiting what you can do as the US version does.  This is the first time I've ever seen it, and it did it twice to me today on two different messages to two different people.  Oh well, it's a brief aggravation but ultimately it's not going to stop me from saving money and getting an ever better deal.

You maybe right with that .com thing...  As I've only been buying from this country, the last few years.

You have to do it this way "joeblow at  letsmakeadeal dot com" then it will go through.

Been happening on and off for me for about a year, but recently hasn't been happening.
No problem, and makes sense for them, easy to get around anyways if you want to be a rule breaking criminal;)

I believe the warning is sellers are not to solicit off eBay sales, they've never said anything about buyers soliciting them.   ;)

This has been going on for a while.
As stipulated by others here, simply using brackets -- () -- around words will work.
Quotation marks -- "" -- will sometimes be banned though, even if they are in brackets.

Also, even typing the end of the address as you normally would -- example.com -- gets picked up at times.
Try the following: example (at) example (dot) com -- this tends to work for me when buyers want to talk privately.
Or, if you have a website, direct them to that and ask them to use the contact form on your site.

Best wishes,
Adam

Just sent a message only 5 days ago on ebay.co.uk after one of my items didn't sell and a buyer wanted to buy off site. Worked fine. :-*

Just take a screen shot of what you want to say, save it as a jpg image and include it in the message.

That will work for now.

This still seems viable.
