Yep, the letters "CO" are hanging in mid air.

Here's the original pic.

Another marquee decorated nicely, for the opening of House of Frankenstein in 1944:

And one other, for The Ghost Of Frankenstein:

Most definitely from the 38 release as the Monster up above is from Bride of....

Is that Drac poster I pointed out an earlier use of the r47 art?  I'm a newb at this stuff, but it was my understanding that only one r38 Dracula poster has turned up... the (IMO) stunning black and green one sheet from the Latrobe discovery. However that style only had Lugosi on it. This poster clearly shows him embracing Chandler...

Is there a press book from the '38 release?

Or maybe it was lifted, in the middle of the night, as a little memento. ;)

That is the 1951 30" x 40" you see over on the left side.

I'd love either of the standees that are mounted on the marquee in this shot, or the banner above the doorway  thumbup:

I thought we decided that this photo was from the '38 release? The poster I'm talking about is on the left between the guy in the trench coat and the guy in the white hat. If this is actually from the '51 re-release, do you have a pic of the 30x40? Thanks Sean.

Looks to be in the vein of this style (no pun intended)  8)

The Dracula title in the photo is different, tho. Turned downward.

Beat me to the punch, Jeff.  Could the left hand display be a photo blowup/montage from the theater's art dept., if they had one?
I'll raise a glass to the illusion but drink to the reality.

Sean, I don't think the '47 and '51 three sheets are similar.  I can't find the '47 pb image but it has a large head of Lugosi ala the lobby card border art, although in color instead of glorious duo tone.

Ooooo... is that the r51 30x40?  That is awesome.

That said, both it and the r47 material have a similar u-shaped title, while the one in the photo clearly is in an upside-down u-shape.  Could it be an even bigger poster?   The more I think about, those people walking are considerably closer to the camera than the poster.  Maybe a 40x60 or a 3-sheet?

For other reference, only (still trying to locate that poster in the photo), here are the R51 half sheet, OS and insert:

And would the large photo posters here near street level be considered a type of vertical banner? They look incredible.

I had thought I remembered it being a tall full figure image of Lugosi (but with no woman), but you are probably right Lynn,
It has been forever since I actually saw McLaughlin's 3-sheet in person (which no one seems to be able to find after his passing) and my computer that had all the pressbooks scanned in it crashed earlier this year.
