The plastic must be to stop other packages getting wet!

Sealing up wet package in plastic helps to prevent the package drying out?... Awesome. Whats the point of the plastic, to stop it disintigrating / falling apart like a wet tissue?

The point is, being that wet it would have ruined the other mail items in the King Of Queens truck along the way..

Maybe someone was shipping an iceberg in the same batch as Bruce's posters?

Maybe sellers could go a step further and instead of using those pvc sleeves folded over and taped, use pvc sleeves with zip lock. I store my my posters in them, bought in packs of 500. Surely only some extra cents to the cost per bag and that should waterproof the contents.

Or heat seal one end.  I have a 15" heat seal and at one time heat sealed all my rolled posters because there was a pipe above my office where I kept my posters... I've done it to some of my folded posters but air always got in so I had to cut a corner to release the air. I did discover recently that you can use a flexible magnet to remove the air and then seal but haven't tried it yet...
