With some research and a good deal of help (especially from Charlie), Ive managed to do some of my own stuff:

Before:

After:

Impressive results!  Would you mind telling us more about what all steps you did?  Is this only conservation -- i.e. washing, bleaching and mounting?  Or does it include restoration as well?  I know you said you didn't do paper fills, but did you do paint touch-up, air-brushing, or other steps?

Amazing job, really.

Thanks. In retrospect, I probably posted this in the wrong thread, since this was only conservation. I gave the poster a de-acidification followed by bleaching and then mounting. No airbrush, no water colors, or any other type of restoration.

Well then color me extra impressed that the yellowing/browning along the folds came out so well! I have boatloads of these Eastern European posters printed on crappy craft paper and that's very much the norm.

Yeah I know what you mean. I have a good deal of Eastern European posters, most of which are my favorite posters. I didn't dare work on them until I was confident I wouldn't damage them.

I'm really happy with these results, so I'm going to be cleaning up most of them.

Couple more I worked on.

My favorite Rohmer: MA NUIT CHEZ MAUD French One Panel - This thing is big 48 x 63. Turned out ok, bigger format posters can be a real bitch:

Washed and mounted but still working on touching up the rips:

Still very, very impressed by your wash results and the removal of the toning/discolouration!

Great job!!!  Looks like that bleaching tip was the ticket!  Can't wait to see what else you can do.

HA. I'm in no way confident enough to work on other peoples stuff. But when I am, I'll let you know.

Well, I got Crocodile Chuckee back from restoration/framing today. I took a lot of up close pics of the various "before" defects, but unfortunately my phone died on me before I could upload them. But here's the before and after overview shots.

The work was done by Lumiere Poster Restoration through Susan at Hollywood Poster Frames. I'm really happy with the results. The buildings in the "before" shot hide a series of nasty spiderweb creases with ink loss, and they're totally gone. Also gone are a lot of pinholes and dirt. Looks just like it would have when they were hung in the stores almost 30 years ago.
