This one just arrived.  Although it wasn't in bad condition, it's a big improvement.

I had originally planned on sending it to Poster Conservation for the restoration (still my favorite place for linen backing), but I wanted to see the work of Jaime Mendez and decided to send it to him, and overall it was a good experience.

Steve will love this one!!  It looks like an excellent job. He is really good, he restored my Casa WC. Congrats Brando !

I got this restoration done by Mario Cueva.  I was excited to know he lives pretty close to me and visited him in person.  Seeing what he was working on was like being a kid in a candy store.  It was really exciting.  He did a really nice job on what's certainly one of my favorite posters.  Sorry for the crappy photography of the "after" picture.  I'm super burnt out right on having to take the perfect picture - it takes a lot to set up the vacuum table, lighting and camera in my apt.  I'll do it another time.

Beautiful job there, Mike.  clap clap

And the 2nd pic looks great! Colors look as they should, even lighting,.... bravo!

And i have had the opportunity to meet Mario, too, on several occasions, when he dropped and picked up from me.

A nice guy, personable, was happy to talk and explain, and really knows his stuff.

Plus, i got to see what other poster goodies he had in his vehicle, that he had either just picked up (to work on), or was delivering back to clients in the area, here, when i walked him back to his car. It truly was like looking on a candy store shelf !

Yes the variety he works on is amazing.  He had a Sessue Hayakawa poster in his workshop that made my jaw drop!  His wife is great, and it was an all around super experience.  Next up I will be sending him my DUEL, POLTERGEIST, and THE BEYOND posters to restore.

One time he was here, he had a folded insert for The Cat People (1942), on his back seat. It was on its way to his studio, to be cleaned up, and repaired. I stood there with a  jawdrop look, I'm sure.

Mike, That looks like a great job indeed. I have a huge respect for Mario Cueva, he did a fantastic work on some posters of mine which were in an awful state. He really brought yours to life again. Very happy for you - now question is... will you frame it? :P ;)

Yes but not just yet.  I just had a lot of things framed, so I might have to wait until after January 1st.

Here are a few good linen backings that arrived a few months ago from Poster Mountain.  Piranha is the only one that needed any work in addition to the backing.  They just touched up a few fold intersections that were torn.

PM did a really good job, and it was a pleasure to do business with them.  These aren't perfect, as they were all in good condition prior to backing, and I didn't want to have them restored to perfection.  I'm stoked with how they turned out.  These aren't the best photos, and they look better in person.

Italian 4F Piranha:

UK video poster Ferris Bueller's Day Off:

French 1P RR Easy Rider.  I had a commercial poster with this image on display for several years, back in the day.  This is one of my favorites.  The photo is from my old abode:

Thanks.

Considering my recent experience with restoration, that I mentioned in other threads, I just want to note that I truly do not expect absolute perfection.  I just appreciate good work, and when the whole process goes smoothly.

Many posters are not perfect when acquired by collectors. So i'm with you in that thinking. You just want the work done that you asked for, and without any additional "issues" or hassles.

cheers

This one arrived recently from Poster Conservation.

They just did some minor touch ups, and backed it.  They've done great work on all the posters that I've sent them (all modern glossies), and they're very nice to deal with.

Yeah, it's a Japanese B1, the only one I've seen for the movie.

There is another, quite similar style for this one.

Yes, there is another poster style from Japan, for the movie, although I've only seen it in the B2 size.  Do you have a photo of the style you're talking about?

I was mentioning that this poster, in particular, is the only copy that I've seen.

After consulting with a couple of very helpful members, I narrowed it down to Dario and Jaime Mendez. Went with Jaime in the end as he was a tiny bit cheaper this time and I was feeling poor. I'll try Dario next time as his work looks super and no one had a bad word to say.

It's the first time I've backed something, condition was pretty shabby! Mainly the paper loss and the big taped rip to the left of Lando (fold lines were ok). So got it backed, washed, borders fixed and some minor touch ups. I'm pleased with the result...it looks good and doesn't look overly restored when I examine it up close.
