Mike's German posters HOLLYWOOD STARS
« on: April 25, 2012, 11:15:02 AM »
In this thread I'll post my German posters on actors like Lancaster, Mitchum, Rat Pack, Curtis, Newman, Douglas, Quinn etc.
As usual I'll stop with the posters around the time of the early 70s...

Mr. Bernard Schwartz. Many good ones, I love the German 50s UNIVERSAL posters:

I'll continue with RAT PACK.
Then solo Sinatra, solo Dean Martin, Martin & Lewis and solo Jerry Lewis.

Very, very nice, Mike
Seems to me that you should do a book on the history of the German movie poster.
I don't think one had been done yet?
 cheers

Oh at least 6-10 have been published!

Four volumes with approx 2000 posters, and volumes on certain
artists like Ernst Litter, Lutz Peltzer, Klaus Dill.

For the start I recommend these two, you won't regret it. They include all the great stuff, 90%
I do not have, the $2000+ posters :):
http://www.amazon.de/Das-Buch-Filmplakate-1945-1965/dp/3924191042/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1

http://www.amazon.de/Vierhundertvierundvierzig-Filmplakate-goldenen-Kinojahre-1946/dp/3890896502/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_1

I have four other books (not on posters) planned. If I ever have the time I will make a book using
my posters that were NOT included in those previousely mentioned books on German posters.

Here are my scarce 1950s first release MARTIN & LEWIS posters.

Followed by the 1960s / early 70s re-releases (+ MONEY FROM HOME & JUMPING JACKS which
unfortunately were first released in Germany in 1970). By then distributors highlighted Jerry Lewis
as the (comedy-)star, not so much 'Martin & Lewis'.

I didn't realize I have so many JL. Well, some of the earlier ones are quite nice. First three titles show first releases, then re-releases. All others are first release. After that I'll continue with EASTWOOD & JAMES STEWART.

This ongoing tour of your collection has become one of the highlights of my day.
The diversity is incredible.
Thanks, Mike!

Love that GLENN MILLER STORY design.
The longer I hang around this place, the less I like American one sheets...

Great, I won't stop until you will :)

I always thought Americans made the best films, Germans made the best posters for them :)
(and the Italians of course).
No arrogance here, just personal taste :)

I think, UK and Italians made the best films, except the germans made something that is truly THE best film,  Italians and Germans sometimes make the best posters, depends on the genre and era, Germany seems to have been miles ahead in print quality and paper stock.
And I collect Australian posters mainly.
HA.

I didn't mean that for real, how could one pin down the overall quality of films in general to certain countries ?
On my Top 20 list I guess 50% are American films, the rest is from Italia, France & England.

Mr. Burt Lancaster - my favorite poster is FLAME AND THE ARROW:

At the end I'll include the remaining Frankenheimer, most of his 60's films he made with Lancaster anyway.

Marlon Brando.
Highlighted by the Bob Peak Apocalypse Now, Sayonara double panel (by my favorite poster artist) and The Men, his first film. I included a French Waterfront (120x160cm) which I like a lot (sorry for the poor, old scan).
At the end I'll add few more Elia Kazan posters. Somehow those two guys belong together..

Maybe anybody for Bebel ??
Highlights are Godard, Melville, Cartouche ..
All first release except for the third PIERROT (1970);
LA CIOCIARA (1965) & THE BRAIN (1973)

(Only four or five are missing, I have almost all German Bebel posters. Here I stopped at 1970)

That's quite a bundle of Bebel you have there, Mike.
I especially like this CRIME ON A SUNDAY MORNING design.
Very cool.
