Why? Because you likely already know that vintage photos from the 1920s to the 1940s can sell for hundreds of dollars each, and these transparencies and negatives are even better than the vintage photos made from them!
It is like the difference between owning a vintage poster and the original artwork the poster was printed from. Transparencies and negatives are many times more rare than the corresponding vintage photos, and yet, because many people are not yet aware of them, they often can sell for LESS than a vintage photo created from them, and that seems crazy to us!And this set of auctions ends in two days, and it is FILLED with incredible iconic images of the greatest Hollywood stars, but many of them are currently at ridiculously low prices. How low? 394 of the lots (some of which contain a single transparency, negative, or slide but many contain multiples) are at just $1, and 193 have no bid at all!
Only 215 are currently over just $5, and those 215 are mostly FAR under what would seem to be a reasonable retail for these items (most are so rare that it is anyone's guess what a "reasonable retail" would be). Now there is sure to be more bidding before these close, but you can never tell which ones will get those bids! And remember that many of these have more than one item per lot, and three have over 100 in each, and yet the above quote prices are per lot, NOT per item!
For those of you who don't know what these are, transparencies and negatives were first created by top professional photographers, who would retouch them as necessary to present the finest possible images. Very few of these "camera original" transparencies and negatives survive. These were the ones that were actually in the camera when the photographer took the image.
Once the photographer finished creating the negatives or transparencies, they gave them to the studios who duplicated them and sent them to media outlets or other places that had need of the very highest quality image for reproduction purposes (in newspapers, magazines, or elsewhere).
Camera original and studio-issued transparencies, negatives and 35mm slides can be used to make very high quality reproductions, but bear in mind that we are solely auctioning the physical transparencies and NOT the right to reproduce them, so unless they are public domain, the new owner must acquire the rights elsewhere before reproducing them.
Original studio produced transparencies and negatives come in several sizes (8x10, 4x5, 2 1/4 by 2 1/4, and some odd sizes). The larger the transparency or negative, the better the quality of reproduction can be made from them!
There are also transparencies that were NOT created by studios, and those were made by collectors or auction houses (by photographing the actual posters or photos). HOWEVER, THIS SET OF AUCTIONS DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY ITEMS THAT WERE NOT EITHER STUDIO PRODUCED OR CAMERA ORIGINALS FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHER!

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME WE AUCTIONED THESE! On 2/11/18, we at eMoviePoster.com held a special auction of 365 8" x 10" (and other sizes) transparencies, negatives and 35mm slides. Most of those, but not all, were camera original or studio-issued, and a lot of those deserved sold in the high hundreds of dollars each and the 365 items sold for a combined total of $33,402.00. And on 6/10/18 we held a second such auction and this was not as major a selection as the first one, but the 444 items still sold for a combined total of $15,000.00.
Now we have this bigger and better THIRD such auction! This time we have 185 single negatives and sets (that are almost all camera originals), 270 singles and sets of transparencies (ALL studio-issued) and 253 sets of 35mm slides (many from studio employees)!

This is a very special auction of 710 extremely rare negatives and transparencies of various sizes plus 35mm slides. EVERY single one in this auction is either "studio issued" (meaning it was created by the studio and sent to theaters and movie outlets), OR it is a "camera original" (meaning it was the actual negative that was in the camera when the photographer took the picture). Every auction clearly identifies which they are, and there are no items being auctioned that are not either "studio issue" or "camera originals". We have divided them by type and size (and note that many of the sets of 35mm slides are quite large, with three containing over 100 each, and that many of these came from studio employees, and may well contain some or many images that were NOT included with presskits!).
Also note that every one of these auctions of negatives have had the negatives scanned expertly to create a positive image. The auctions contain that positive scan with the "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. ONLY the winner of this auction will, on request, be sent UNWATERMARKED scan(s) of the items in this auction, which will both save them the time and expense of scanning them themselves, and also allow them to make positive prints of the items they purchased. In the case of transparencies, almost all of them were scanned individually (a very few were not, and that is clearly identified on those auctions). In the case of 35mm slides, almost all of them were photographed on a light box, and only a few or none were scanned, and that is clearly identified on those auctions. In the case of transparencies and 35mm slides, the images that appear on the auctions have an "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. The winners of those auctions can, upon request, have the unwatermarked images (if they were scanned, we will send unwatermarked scans, if they were photographed, we will send unwatermarked photographs, and if there is a combination of scans and photographs, we will send what we took).
