HEATHER: Wowzer!!! You got your first 3-sheets and 6-sheets (I have yet to venture into 6-sheets). Good for you being so adventurous! I love my 3-sheets….and may try a 6-er or two eventually. And nice pickups. I have the AEROBICIDE and FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2. (So naturally those get a thumbs up. Ha!). THE CAT CREEPS….oooo that is fabulous! BUFORD’S BEACH BUNNIES? Never heard of it, but now I want to track the movie down based on your description. So jealous of the SORORITY BABES IN THE SLIMEBALL BOWL-A-RAMA. Nice score there. Amazing pick ups for you all around.

There's NOTHING new to see here. I am back home briefly and thought I would actually POST my images (instead of the link to my blog pages). Here are the top 10 faves o' mine that I added in 2023:

Runner up) THE MAZE (3-D on linen):
While not the most exciting of posters (Yes, it’s kind of dull.), it’s a vintage 3-D move poster from the first wave in the 1950s. Yahoo! Despite being on linen, it’s still a great find. This actually WAS included in my Top 10 for the year until another poster came along at the last minute that I like better. Instead of cutting it out, I just gave it the title of “runner up”.  I’m still thrilled to have it.

10) DEEP RED:
This should probably be further down the list as I have been after one of these forever. But why dicker? It made the list, didn’t it? Hooray!

9) THE LAND UNKNOWN (linen):
Yowza!!! This is such a cool poster. What a nice end-of-the-year score for me. (This was one of the last things I got this year…just in time for my last post of new acquisitions for 2023.) It’s so colorful and has so much going on in it…unlike the actual movie.

8) THE BIRDS (linen):
Another poster I have been trying to get all of my collecting life. On linen—but what the flying f*%#!?! It’s now or never. I ain’t gonna live forever…

7) MONSTER ON CAMPUS (linen):
Zowie! Another Reynold Brown classic! (Also on linen, but…)

6) THE MAD GHOUL (linen):
Somehow I had never heard of this flick until this green and blue beauty of a poster caught my eye. Yes, it’s on linen…but I still love it.

5) ISLE OF THE DEAD (re-release on linen):
Yowza! I so am thrilled to have this creepy portrait of Karloff on this poster. I said when I originally posted this, despite this being a rerelease—I have always preferred this version to the completely different original release poster.

4) THE RAVEN (linen):
FINALLY! I have one. Do I need to continue my search for one? “Quoth the raven, nevermore…” (Well a swell one without the linen would be sweet, but…)

3) THE INVISIBLE MAN’S REVENGE (linen):
Universal horror? Even if it is just the 5th (and last—until he went comedy with Abbott and Costello) and not scary at all, I will gladly add it to my collection.

2) ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE INVISIBLE MAN (linen):
ANOTHER linenbacked poster… Blah! (If you are keeping score, only 1 of the 10 in this year’s list is without linenbacking…) It is such a nice, colorful poster. I love how the Invisible Man is portrayed as well.

1) SHE GODS OF SHARK REEF (linen):
While the movie may not be all that good, getting this poster excited me more than any other this year. This year was the year of the tiki bar. While my bar is NOT done yet. I need an electrician--but that will have to wait until next spring as I am “wintering” in California this year (mid-October through mid-February). Yet this poster was framed and up on the wall (on the wall on the first landing leading down to the tiki room). It's sort of a welcome to the bar and sets the mood. (My bar is called Monster-A-GoGo's Gruesome Grotto!) Hot diggity!

That’s it. What exciting things did YOU find this year???

Happy hunting in 2024.

CHEERS!

I'm a little late to the party this year, though wanted to comment and post a couple, too.

Monster: Is this perhaps your best year ever, even though you say you aren't collecting as much?  Those sure are many great posters you displayed for classic horror and suspense movies.  Who's really the Mad Ghoul here???!!! Nice going!

Redman: Yes, so nice to see your Lady and the Tramp Polish poster.

Marklawd: Wow, all original folded quads!  You really did well. All the incredible color and depth on Miracle in SOHO really caught my eye.

Mardukas: That Jaws poster is right in your face scary!  Man, Salem's Lot was spookier than I expected when I first watched it back when it was on TV in 1979.  I hadn't seen the video poster until you posted it.  The use of just three colors works well for the design.

Antoine1973: So much incredible movie paper you got in 2023! Makes me long for the collecting days of yore and wishing I would have been more brave. Incredible!!!

Neo: I love Fifth Element! I wonder how Delos Adventure gal keeps her machine gun dry?! Nice adventure you had collecting in 2023!

HeatherMason: What a cool mix of posters you got. I think the 16 Candles Spanish is so much better than the US paper and it's painted! I really like the Cat Creeps 3 sheet!  Your Pillow Talk six sheet would sure look great framed and up on the wall, eh?!

Here's a few I bought last year:

A nice, unbacked one sheet for Captive Wild Woman. See, Antoine, I'm learning.  Really, just got lucky.

Forgive me, this isn't movie paper, though it is one of my very favorite poster acquisitions from 2023.  Charles Strobel was famous for his early aeroplane and airship shows and also in the early air races. Strobel also owned and named the Toledo Mud Hens baseball team. Since this poster is quite fragile, I will have this important early aviation poster linen backed and restored to help ensure it lasts for several more 100+ years.

I just love this beautiful stone litho poster for Heaven on Earth. Glad I got it the second time around.

Well, I thought I took a picture before I framed Son of Frankenstein, though can't find it. I really am so happy to get this Argentinean original 1939 poster.  I was surprised to remember I bought this earlier in 2023 as it seems so long ago for some reason now.

I raise a glass to several really good friends, who were also collectors, that passed away in 2023. I'm glad for the memories of good times together.

Happy Mardi Gras and Carnival everyone!  Okie

Well shut the front door… Zowie, Okie! You only posted 4… but those 4 have my jaw dropped all of the way to the floor. Yowza, senor!! While CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN (with Aquanetta!!) and SON OF FRANKENSTEIN are, of course, my favorites here, the vintage airplane poster and especially that gorgeous HEAVEN ON EARTH one sheet are freaking fantastic!!! Bravo, sir!

MAGG, I don't know how I missed The She Gods of Shark Reef. What a great title and wild shark film artwork.  Added the film to my queue.  8)

Well done there, Okie.  You always have such interesting history and important pieces to share here.  Heaven on Earth is stunning and the one with them old school aeroplanes although not move related is amazing.  Good call on having it preserved for future generations.

Hey Neo. Glad you like the poster, but… Don’t get too excited about the movie. It’s not all that good. Hopefully you find a good quality transfer if you do decide to see it.
Cheers

Fantastic 4, Okie!  Captive Wild Woman is my favorite poster in this less-than-stellar trilogy (the title font alone is awesome, and the classic lady-and-gorilla composition is iconic).  I haven't seen That Heaven on Earth but I this stone litho is truly magnificent (it caught my eye when I first saw it at Heritage a couple of years ago before another copy popped up at Propstore last year).

MAGG, She Gods of Shark Reef belongs to the very small category of movies I've never seen that I own paper for (hard to resist such a great Reynold Brown image after all!).  I usually make a point of having watched all the films that I collect posters for.  With She Gods, I've always suspected that the movie itself would be disappointing so I haven't made any effort to seek it out, so I'm glad to hear you confirming that's the case.

It’s not horrible. It’s just not very good. The best part about it is the Reynold Brown poster! Glad you’ve got one, too. It’s awesome. Cheers!

Thank you, Monster, Neo, and Antoine!  Antoine, I believe the Heaven on Earth one sheet is the exact same one that both HA and Propstore auctioned. So, still the only one I've ever seen.  Neo, some of those early air shows were filmed, so there is hope a short film was shot way back then.  Gosh, if only that early film stock had been more stable...    Okie
