Hi, no. Wasn't bidding on it.

Just wasn't sure what it was, or where it hailed from.

I was under bidder on it, but only because I couldn't bid live, or I'd have went that bit more...

It's a Double Crown, and I'm sure from the first release. Most Double Crowns have much more basic artwork and are not as colourful as the Quads. I know on the ABC circuit FRWL was on a double-bill, as I'm sure it was on the Odeon. I need to dig my books out to just check, but I'm sure thats right.

This Moonraker Seiko 'quad' just went for £340 plus ~20% BP today.

http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/omega-auctions/catalogue-id-srom10052/lot-62b184f9-b258-49ef-a768-a4a60116ecaf

£400+.  Anyone here pick this up?  This is reminiscent of that Die Another Day 1 sheet on emp recently.  A competition poster.

I was tempted but at that price....

Nope, must admit I wasn't really interested.

I did look and figured, if it doesn't go above £40, I'd have a pop....  Clearly out of touch with these items!

Can I ask, what in the name of all things holy, is this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thunderball-Original-poster-Quad-Size-James-Bond-Sean-Connery-/151707952139?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item23527fa40b

Thank you in advance.

It went for £96.

So this means that so long as someone has some paper measuring 30x40, paints a James Bond film title on it, it sells for ~£100.

Bloody hell.  Was it anyone here?  Can anyone now tell me its raison d'etre, and why it is worth anything at all?

Cheers.

Well, it went for ~$340.

I must admit to surprise at that sum.  I have seen, and ended up in buying, only two examples of this poster.  Both were on ebay.co.uk and both were ~£500.

This is an example where ebay proved better than emp, surprisingly.  Which leads me to a question;

Is there any feeling or experience that UK posters do not fare as well on emp as on a UK based auction site?  US posters on emp do very well.  Is there not an appetite for UK posters, by comparison?

On another note, this makes for the second large(ish) loss on a poster purchase and sale.

1. I bought from Vectis a Dr No quad which was very heavily restored and perhaps I should have returned it.  I spent £3700, and, having returned it to Vectis, it sold, commission free, for £950.

2. And of course the above Goldfinger / Thunderball quad that cost me £500 and sold for $340 - however that translates to me in terms of auction profit.

Quite clearly, I won't be the Next Big Thing in poster dealing!

I have to say Simon I think it wasn't a bad price Emovie got for that D/B. As we all know, what items are listed for and what they actually sell for are two different things. I think it was a UK buyer too as I recognise the name who bought it.  What you need to think is, if you paid too much for an item, you can't expect another buyer to pay for you mistake. Scarcity does not mean big money, it's all about supply and demand.

And to answer your Question, I do personally think you get more for UK posters over here than selling in the US.There are of course the exceptions but as a rule of thumb.
