Poster Guide Site
« on: March 13, 2012, 05:23:15 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm new here. I have a non-profit movie poster guide site at www.posterguide.org.
Started it as a site for my own private use back in early 2000s, been updating it all these years on and off. Decided to upload it so that everyone could benefit.

It aims to track any and all movie posters that have been produced around the world.

Would appreciate any feedback that you could give.

Thanks,

Alex

Very impressive endeavor, Alex.  Yours may be the first public database to allow sorting by NSS number:

Except there were no NSS numbers in 1930!

The NSS numbers in my database are not only based on the numbers printed on posters, but on the numbers logged by the NSS for each production (which started in 1930). I am considering adding a checkbox to confirm printing of said NSS number on each poster.

Is there a public database somewhere with these numbers?  The only one I am aware of is the incomplete LAMP one that was compiled from the posters themselves.

Much of it is from the list that Ed at LAMP managed to track down, plus other numbers that I have found on posters (obviously after the 30s).

I just had a look, very impressive.  Also disheartening seeing all the Newman poster still out there for me to find.

Looks like a great idea Alex. I had a quick search for my favourite director and there were a few errors on the listings, such as wrong versions listed and sizes. I wasn't sure if you were using a template and that information would be updated at a later date maybe?

Very nice site!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that this:
https://www.posterguide.org/posterdetails.php?pid=214828&mid=1074189
is incorrect. It states that it was a USA poster, but I thought this design was only released in Australia.

That's not an US poster or an Aussie poster.  By the way, that basic design was used in several countries (just not the US).

You are correct -- partially.  The original Ohrai design was produced for Japanese release and re-formatted for the Australian (and Argentina, India, etc.) campaign.
But, the pic used in the above-linked Movie Poster Guide database is the one-sheet size, commercial reprint sold in America.  Notice how the EMPIRE logo has been moved to the lower left.?
Here is the Japanese B1/B2, the Australian one sheet and the commercial reprint in order:
(Disregard the sizes of these pics. I just grabbed em off the net.):

I will correct the ESB US poster as mentioned.
Do you think that I should add a check box for commercial prints, or remove them completely from the site.
I am tempted to remove them completely.
I tried to attached a screen of the editing interface that I use on the site to set information for each poster, however it is saying upload folder full.

I would remove completely as they don't fit in with what you are trying to achieve with your site.

Very nice, Alex.

Although... I feel a little bit at home on your site.  Don't worry, I don't care.  I just see a lot of my posters up there.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Thierry,

You are correct, and I have listed you here www.posterguide.org/thanks.php.
If you (or anyone) finds any images that they own, and would like me to remove them, then please let me know and I will.
I'm hoping that in the spirit of the site, that people will be OK, as long as they are acknowledged on the thank you page, and the site remains free (which I can assure you, it always will).

Agreed, I have removed the poster. I appreciate the error corrections (I'm sure there are many mistakes).

You can email corrections here if you don't want to post in the forum.

It's Eatbrie... one word, no cap on Brie.  Why do people always want to capitalize Brie?

Yeah, good job.  How many posters in your database?
