Hong Kong havoc!
« on: December 22, 2011, 01:12:49 PM »
Hong Kong may be most known for its martial arts and gangster movies, but they made a lot of weird stuff in the 70's, including horror, thrillers and comedies. Here are a few - sorry for the temporary photos, I have not yet got around to documenting this part of the collection properly!

I'd love to see Hong Kong posters from other ages and genres too!

(the final one is a blatant rip-off of the tasteful art for UK production INSEMINOID!)

Jeezum crow those are cool.
This is a treat -- I have seen very few HK posters from that era.
Wild and different.

Those are great posters Lars Erik!
HK cinema was certainly at its best from the early 70's through to the late 90's.

Here is a poster for director Tsui Hark's early (and incredibly violent) movie DON'T PLAY WITH FIRE:

A CHINESE GHOST STORY (beautiful movie)

And these are two pics I took when I first visited Hong Kong in 1991

Sadly, HK cinema has changed considerably since then. Back in the 90's the vast majority of cinemas only played local movies. Nowadays it's mostly boring Hollywood fare....

Awesome pics! Is that cinema on the top near Mong Kok? In that case I might have gone to it recently!

The first cinema was in the Jordan area near Temple Street Road but does not exist anymore (I watched that very movie there and the film was pretty awful). The second billboard was located on the crossing between Jordan and Nathan Road. I think the Watson drugstore is still in the same location.

Great stuff, and it does seem that there was some bizarre stuff coming from HK during that time.  I only have a couple of newer ones.

A pair for Tsui Hark's Seven Swords

And one for Chungking Express
Schan
Thanks.  You know what you did.

very nice indeed, especially those Shaw Brothers posters. This is a very nice blogsite dedicated to HK posters. Just found it on the net after looking for some titles.

oily maniac is a CRAZY MOVIE!!!!
it makes much less sense than 96% of other chop socky flicks!!
i was stunned when i watched it for the first time. its kind of like an evil superman thing?
only instead of a phone box to transform, our slimy hero needs an oil drum to dunk in????
BIZARRO!
pretty sure i have seen curse of evil and bewitched too? but have forgotten them as you do with most SB movies!
i dont have any HK posters to contribute, sorry :(
only thing i have close is a UK quad for game of death/big boss and it isnt very good either!  ;D
I don't know much, but i do know what my eyes are telling me!

Classic Bolo.....prior to finding this set I only saw 1 single card for sale so when I found this set I did not need to have my arm twisted to buy them , lol

These could actually be 2 different sets (Chinese set and English only set.....like they did with BL films)

Hi everyone. Just joined APF, first post. I now live in HK and was wondering if anyone knew of an actual shop that sells these HK posters?
Thanks Marc

Missing lower left corner so not exactly mint (but I've seen these with huge chunks missing/torn off so it's adequate)
